General Education Distribution

Blue Vertical Divider Medaille College believes that all graduates should have a well-rounded education. All baccalaureate degree students are required to complete a program of studies based on courses in five theme areas and to demonstrate college-level abilities in mathematics and computer applications. The five themes describe the basic competencies of a college graduate in the modern world. Students may not take General Education courses Pass/Fail.

Theme I - Self and Others
Through self-awareness and an understanding of human nature, students will clarify their values and use these values in making decisions and interacting with others.
Theme II - Global Perspectives
Through an understanding of the forces which affect our interdependent world, students will develop an awarenesss, appreciation, and respect for their own and other cultures.
Theme III - Creative Expression
Through an understanding and awareness of artistic expression, students will develop and demonstrate their creativity.
Theme IV - Science, Technology and Environment
Through the development of scientific perspective, students will explore their relationship to technology and the environment.
Theme V - Communication
Through the development of their communication skills and enhanced confidence in expressing themselves, students will be empowered for life-long learning.

GEN 110, Medaille Experience course required of all first year students. All other students refer to credit distribution page in Catalog for specific program requirement.

Computer Requirement (3 credit hours)
Student must take 3 credit hours of computer (CIS 115 or above)

Mathematics Requirement
The College requires that all baccalaureate students achieve a competency in mathematics that includes intermediate algebra and statistics. The algebra requirement may be satisfied through an appropriate score on the math placement test, MAT 114, or equivalent course work. The statistics competency may be satisfied through MAT 201, BIO 301, or equivalent course work. (Degree programs may require specific math courses and/or a specific nuumber of math credits. Check program requirements.)
