Program Description
The
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs in Psychology
both are designed to provide students with a broad-based understanding
of psychology, and, through an appropriate choice of electives,
the opportunity to tailor their course of study to fit their specific
interests and career objectives.
The
purpose of the Bachelor of Arts degree program is to provide intensive
training to those students who desire a foundation for graduate
work in psychology, or who choose to further their education in
a graduate program in business, human services, law, or mental
health. It also provides a strong preparation for careers in fields
which require a knowledge of human behavior, leadership and motivation,
and advanced social skills. The Bachelor of Arts degree program
consists of a 45-credit core of courses that includes 12 required
credits in basic psychology, statistics, and research methods,
followed by 33 credits of psychology electives.
The
Bachelor of Science degree program provides training in biology
and chemistry to supplement a rigorous program in psychology. The
Bachelor of Science degree program prepares those select students
wishing to enter the fields of psychological research, biopsychology,
or research in the health sciences. Students enrolled in this degree
program complete a 51-credit core of courses that includes 36 required
credits in psychology, statistics, and research methods, and 15
required credits in biology and chemistry.
