Cocurricular
activities are a valuable part of your collegiate expewrience. Involvement
complements your academic work by providing opportunities to pursue
interests, gain valuable experiences, and develop leadership and management
skills. It also offers an opportunity to socialize within Medaille's
diverse population. Additionally, participatino in cocurricular activities
increases your marketability upon graduation.
Student Government
Association
Student activities are coordinated
by the Office of Student Activities through the Student Government
Association (S.G.A.). Every student of Medaille College is a member
of S.G.A. and contributes a $50 per semester activity fee. The Student
Senate and S.G.A. Executive Committee distribute the fee to all
of the various clubs and organizations which constitute the cocurricular
structure of the College.
Student Activities
Board
The Board consists of five committees
and is the programming arm of S.G.A. Each committee plans a variety
of activities which represent the interests of a diverse student
population. In any given year, this may include parties, boat rides,
camping and ski trips, horseback riding, theatre excursions, lectures,
sports events, and much more. The program complements the traditional
events which are held on an annual basis: the Fall and Spring Picnics,
Toronto Trip, Holiday Party, and the Awards Banquet.
Evening Student
Council
The Council represents concerns of
the evening student population and is represented on S.G.A. by the
Evening Student Delegates. The Council also sponsors activities
which are specially designed for the non-traditional student.
Clubs
A variety of clubs related to academic
majors are available for those students interested in applying classroom
theory. Academic clubs include the Child and Youth Services Club,
Health and Human Services Club, Media Club, Sports Management Club,
Veterinary Technology Club, and the M.B.A. Student Organization.
Other clubs include the Resident Student Council, Student Volunteer
Center, SADD, Cheerleaders Club, Golf Club, Fencing Club, and the
International Student Society.
NCAA
Athletic Program
Medaille
College sponsers a Division III athletic program through the National
Collegiate Athletic Association and is a founding member of the Upstate
Athletic Alliance. Medaille also holds membership in teh National
Small College Athletic Association and has sent teams to the national
championship tgournament three of the past four years.
Athletics and Recreation
Medaille College offers a variety of
sports at the intramural, extramural, and intercollegiate levels of
competition including softball, basketball, volleyball, cross-country,
baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and flag football. Student interest determines
those sports offered.
Recreational activities
include aerobics, bowling, horseback riding, camping, golf, and tennis.

(Yearbook)
The Medallion is
published annually and provides a pictorial review of theMedaille
school year. Students have the opportunity to gain experience in
photography, graphics and layout.
The Perspective
(Newspaper)
The Perspective is published not only to inform and to keep the
student body updated on issues and events that pertain to them,
but to entertain and educate as well. The paper is published during
the school year and open to all students.
Prelude
(Poetry Anthology)
Prelude provides a creative outlet for the Medaille community. Produced
by students, Prelude prints original poetry in the spring
semester, each year.
Writers Bloc
(Literary Anthology)
Writers Bloc provides a creative outlet for the Medaille community.
Produced by students, Writers Bloc prints original fiction
and non-fiction in the fall semester, each year.
Student Volunteer
Center
The center was developed to coordinate
volunteer activities both on and off-campus. S.V.C. has been involved
in the national clean-up for hunger days, Toys for Tots, and other
worthy causes in the Western New York area.
Alpha Chi Honor
Society
Alpha Chi is a coeducational society
whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character
among college students and to honor those achieving such distinction.
Juniors and seniors who rank in the top ten percent of their class
and have achieved at least a 3.5 average with no Incomplete ("I")
grades outstanding are selected each fall semester based upon their
academic accomplishment.
Phi Theta Kappa
Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa's purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship
among associate degree students. The four hallmarks of this honor
society are scholarship, leadership services, and fellowship. Membership
is extended by the Chapter each fall semester to students without
advanced degrees who have completed at least 12 hours of course
work leading to an associate degree in which they have a GPA of
at least a 3.5 with no Incomplete ("I") grades outstanding.
TV Studio
The Media Department operates a TV
studio which allows students to learn various aspects of broadcast
production from computer graphics to directing and editing a television
program. Students produce three shows aired on local cable networks,
"Business of Buffalo," "Medaille Magazine,"
and "Sheriff Gallivan Reports, " in conjunction with the
Erie County Sheriff's Office as well as several video projects each
year. Hands-on experience at the production facility is encouraged.
The TV Studio also operates in conjunction with the New Media Institute
on various multimedia projects.
WMCB Medaille College
Radio
Medaille's on-campus radio
lab offers an opportunity for all Medaille students to gain valuable
experience in radio broadcasting, both on and off-the-air. The student
staff includes news and sports writers, and air personalities and
producers. WMCB airs diverse types of music from rap to classical.
Theatre Production
All students are encouraged to audition
for the theatre production. Depending on audition results, students
can participate in the production either as actors or crew members.
Alumni Association
The Alumni Association promotes camaraderie
among former students of the College, keeps alumni informed of innovations
at the College, and aids the College through its activities. Special
events are held throughout the academic year. Monthly meetings are
held in the Boardroom. Please call the Director of Alumni Relations
on campus for the present schedule.
Silent Auction
The Silent Auction and holiday party
is held annually in the fall. Food, entertainment, and an array
of gifts for auction highlight this fundraiser that benefits the
College. Student and alumni participation is encouraged. Call the
Institutional Advancement Office for more information.
Founder's Day
The Founder's Day celebration
is held annually. This major event is a fundraiser benefiting various
College programs. At the celebration, the Medaille College Award
is presented to an individual with a record of outstanding community
service, and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award is presented to
an outstanding businessperson. The Distinguished Alumni Award is
presented to a graduate who has excelled in his/her career.
Family Weekend
The College sponsors a weekend of activities
each fall for parents and families of students. This provides an
opportunity for family members to meet faculty, staff, and administrators
and learn more about the College and its educational programs.
Campus Crime Prevention
and Security Program
Medaille College's safety personnel,
Student Affairs staff, and Campus Crime and Sexual Assault Committee
work together to facilitate a proactive approach to crime prevention
on campus. Students are informed
about security issues during New Student Orientation. In addition,
a variety of educational programs are offered to heighten awareness
of public safety. Topics such as sexual assault, self-defense, and
crime prevention/safety awareness are discussed by facilitators
from both the campus and the community-at-large.
Student Conduct
The Vice President for Student
Affairs/Dean of Students or other designated administrative staff
ensures that College regulations are enforced. A description of
student conduct policies and procedures is available in the Medaille
College Student Handbook.
