A survey of leadership as communication. Leadership and communication,
leadership communication styles, leadership and power, leadership
and influence, leadership contexts, and key theoretical and applied
approaches to leadership communication will be discussed. Three

A survey of the current body of communication theory. Non-verbal,
interpersonal, mass communication, spoken and written communication
will be discussed. Language structures, meaning, encoding, decoding,

An intensive study of the theory and practice of public speaking.
Strategies and techniques for effective public speaking will be discussed
in depth and a variety of experiences in public speaking will be offered.

An analysis of the communication process in small groups. Special
emphasis is placed on the theories and practices which pertain to

340 ORAL INTERPRETATION
An introduction to the theory and practice of oral interpretation.
This course includes significant theories which pertain to oral interpretation;
student exercises in the selection, analysis, and adaptation of literature
for oral interpretation; and specific techniques pertaining to individual
and group oral interpretation of prose, poetry, and drama. Three
credit hours. Prerequisite: SPE 130.
