BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (M.B.A.)
|
This five-year B.S./M.B.A. Dual Degree (4+1) program allows a select group of highly motivated and academically gifted students to combine the requirements for the College's Bachelor of Science degree program in Business Administration with the requirements for the College's Master of Business Administration degree program. Students take appropriate undergraduate course work in accounting, economics, computer applications, and mathematics sufficient to waive the foundation-level course requirements of the M.B.A. degree program. Students must complete a minimum of 33 graduate credits to receive the M.B.A. degree. Admission to the Dual Degree program requires that students first be admitted to the B.S. degree program in Business Admiinistration. Matriculated, full-time Business Administration students in the B.S. degree program must apply to the Dual Degree program no later than the end of the first semester of their sophomore year. This deadline gives students accepted into the program time to acquire the undergraduate courses necessary to allow the waiver of the MBA foundation-level course requirements. Students must formally apply to the Chairperson of the Business Department and submit two letters of recommendation. Applicants must have a College GPA of at least 3.25. Transfer students will only be considered for this program if they are currently in their freshman year or in the first semester of their sophomore year, have a 3.25 GPA, and submit two letters of recommendation. The goals of the B.S. degree program in Business Administration are to give students the ability to recognize and capitalize on business opportunities by harnessing the business and economic resources available to them and to impart a working expertise in all of the functional areas of business. The goal of the M.B.A. degree program is to produce graduates who are adept at solving strategic problems and trained in the latest multimedia communication technologies. The goals of the Dual Degree program include these as well as the goals fo allowing qualified students to earn the M.B.A. degree in an accelerated period of time and to be more quickly positioned to achieve career goals. Each student admitted to the B.S./M.B.A. dual Degree program will have the use of a laptop computer for the MBA-level courses. Normally, students will begin taking these MBA courses in the second semester of their senior year, at which time a laptop computer will be made available for their use. As part of the career component each student takes courses in accounting, management, marketing, finance, and law. The computer information systems component seeks to provide a basic familiarity with computers. The field experience requirement gives students the opportunity for "hands-on" experience in applying what has been learned in the classroom to real business situations. The liberal arts and sciences portion of the degree seeks to provide a solid foundation in the humanities and social sciences as well as a background in mathematics and science. All Businesss majors should complete 100-level buinsess courses, WRT 175, WRT 200, SPE 130, ECO 200, and ECO 201 during their first two years at Medaille.
