Master of Education Programs
Admissions and Financial Aid
Admission Requirements
Medaille College’s Master of Education candidates are comprised of those individuals who are seeking initial certification and those who already hold initial certification and seek advanced coursework, professional certification or the degree. To be considered for admission to the M.S. in Education program, the applicant must have completed undergraduate work of high quality and have obtained a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Basic selection criteria include:
Undergraduate Record: The Graduate Admissions Committee reviews the undergraduate record noting the total GPA, the area of concentration and the trend of grades. A minimum 2.7 GPA is recommended, although all applications will be reviewed. Students under 2.7 will require convincing evidence of intellectual ability, communication skills, initiative, leadership, and experience in the field of education.
Letters of Recommendation: The Committee reviews letters of recommendation as they contribute to an understanding of the applicant's academic ability, leadership skills, and aptitude for graduate study. All applicants are required to have two work-related letters of recommendation submitted for review.
Other Convincing Evidence: The Graduate Admissions Committee suggests additional evidence of readiness to succeed in an Education Program including informal assessments of literacy and/or a personal interview.
International Student Admission
The Education Program at Medaille College has a long history of providing initial certification to students from Canada and throughout the world. The admission requirements for Canadian and other students wishing to study at Medaille College are the same as they are for American students. Transcripts will be evaluated and converted to the US equivalent GPA using a 4.0 scale. Foreign language transcripts must be translated using an international credential evaluation service.
Medaille College is approved by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service to accept for enrollment foreign and non-immigrant students. To obtain an F-1 student visa to enter and study in the U.S., you must have an authorized I-20 form. The form is issued, by the College, only after an applicant has been admitted to a degree program as a full-time student, has demonstrated financial responsibility, and proficiency in English.
All international students must send verification of funds available for tuition and living expenses (Canadian Commuter Students need only to show available funds for tuition) to the Admissions Office with your application to expedite the admissions decision and I-20 process. Verification of funds should be in the form of a letter from your foreign bank. Remember that Medaille College tuition is based on US dollars and any bank statement must indicate the current exchange rate from foreign currency to USD.
All international students must attend full-time and carry at least 9 hours each term (or full time as defined by their program.) Students must maintain continuous registration for 2 semesters of consecutive enrollment -excluding summer.

Additional Information
Degree Requirements
The program of study leading to the Medaille M.S. in Ed. consists of seven core courses, four liberal arts courses, and one capstone course. The capstone course requires completion of an action research project.
Transfer Credit
Up to twelve credits for study deemed equivalent to graduate courses for work completed at other regionally accredited institutions may be offered in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Medaille M.S. in Ed. when the work is of acceptable quality and appropriate to the program.
Academic Performance Requirements
Graduate study at Medaille College demands academic rigor of students. The program expects that the average of the grades for all courses taken in fulfillment of degree requirements at Medaille will be at least a B (3.0). It is the student's responsibility to monitor his or her cumulative grade point average, ensuring that any grades falling below B are offset by corresponding grades above B. A student whose grade point average falls below a 3.0 is automatically placed on Probationary Status.
During your first semester in the Education Program at Medaille College, you will be registered with the Academic Standards Committee for Graduate Education Programs under one of three designations: Good Academic Standing, Probationary, or Provisional. Minimum academic requirements for good academic standing established by the Education Program are as follows.
Good Academic Standing – Good academic standing means that a student is making acceptable progress towards a graduate degree. Students in Good Academic Standing have an Official Transcript of a BA or BS conferred from an accredited institution on file with the registrar. A GPA of 3.0 at Medaille College is required to maintain Good Academic Standing.
Probationary Status –Probationary status is invoked for students whose entering undergraduate performance is not at the 3.0 level or whose performance at Medaille College falls below a 3.0 level. Probationary status for GPA will be removed when a GPA of 3.0 is posted for a semester of Medaille College courses. Students who fail to rise to this level of work in one semester may be placed on Provisional Status. Failure to send Official Transcripts of a BA or BS conferred from an accredited institution (conferral may be pending) will result in Probationary Status. If lack of Liberal Arts credits is the reason for probationary status, a signed plan for the completion of the 30 college level credit hours of Liberal Arts will remove probationary status. Students, who continue in Probationary Status for two terms, may be recommended for dismissal from the college.
Provisional Status – Students who have Provisional Status are in danger of being recommended for dismissal from the college. Provisional status is granted to students who have failed to move out of Probationary Status. Provisional Status may be granted by the Academic Standards in Graduate Education Committee for a student who’s GPA for a term or cumulative terms falls below a 2.0 level.
Time Limit
Students entering the Education Program normally have five (5) years to complete their graduate studies. Since continuous active participation in the program is essential for proper graduate training, all graduate students must be registered for a minimum of six credit hours during each calendar. Graduate students in good academic standing who cannot maintain continuous registration should apply for a leave of absence by the beginning of the semester in which the leave is to begin.
Convenient Format
Medaille College’s Master of Education Programs offer an array of convenient formats including traditional evening course, modular evening programs, intensive day programs, and weekend programs.
