What criteria is used to determine admission to the program?
Your admissions decision will be based on your total GPA, the area of concentration, and the trend of grades, letters of recommendation and work experience. Apply online »
Can I complete the program part-time?
You may take our Literacy and Special Education programs on a part-time basis. Student must attend full-time for our Elementary Education program.
How often are applications accepted for the Education programs?
Applications are reviewed throughout the year; students are admitted during the Fall (August) and Spring (January) semesters.
How do I apply?
You can submit an application, either with our Graduate Online Application or in hard-copy. To obtain a hard-copy application, please call the School of Adult and Graduate Education at (716) 631-1061.

What are your tuition rates?
The graduate tuition for 2009-10 is $677/credit hour. Rates are subject to change.
How do I apply for financial aid?
At the graduate level financial aid is usually in the form of student loans. Please visit www.fafsed.gov to fill out your financial aid application and obtain further financial aid information. More »
Do I need to take any exams before I enroll?
Medaille does not require either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogy Test (MAT).
I have not taken all the liberal arts and science courses (Elementary Education program only). Can I still be admitted into the program?
Yes. To qualify for the program you must have a bachelor’s degree. Any outstanding requirements can be completed prior to enrollment or while a student at Medaille
Do you have a brochure that you send applicants?
Yes, we would be happy to send you printed material. You may call the Graduate Admissions Office at (716) 631-1061 or send an email to gradadmissions@medaille.edu. You can also fill out the online information request form.
I have questions about your program. Can I make an appointment to talk with an admissions counselor?

How will I find out if I’ve been accepted?
Once a determination is made, you will be sent a letter indicating the admission decision.
How long should my philosophy of education statement be?
The philosophy of education statement should long enough for you to explain your thoughts on teaching and learning. We recommend that it be at least 1-2 pages in length, double-spaced.
About the Programs
What can you tell me about the professors in the Education Programs?
The professors who teach education courses are devoted to the pursuit of knowledge and committed to training the next generation of teachers. They have extensive experience in classroom settings, and most have spent many years in a classroom in front of children.
What is the typical work load for a full-time graduate student?
The work load varies from course to course. Student can expect to spend on average 10-12 hours per week studying. This will vary from student to student.
What is considered a passing grade?
A student must receive a B- or higher in order to pass the course. Students are allowed to re-register for a course they have failed with the next cohort. It is the student's responsibility to contact the program director to make arrangements. Students who fail two courses will be put on academic probation. If the terms of the probation are not met, the student will be asked to leave the program.
What do I do if I have a disability?
If you have a documented disability, you must register with the office of Disability Services. They can be reached at (716) 880-2000, ext. 2391. It is your responsibility to initiate contact with them as well as with your professors. As a college, we are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to student with disabilities.
How will I apply for graduation?
You will need to apply for graduation with the Registrar's office during your last semester. The exact dates vary from semester to semester.
