Overview

Our graduate program in Literacy is designed for individuals who are Initially Certified in Early Childhood (Birth-2) and/or Childhood (1-6). This program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to meet literacy needs in the classroom, a crucial component to every student’s academic achievement. As a literacy graduate, students will be an empowered classroom teacher, literacy consultant and advocate in school for literacy remediation.
Students completing this program will earn a Master’s Degree in Education, Certification in Literacy (Birth-grade 6) and fulfill academic requirements to gain professional certification.
This program is offered as an evening cohort which may be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. Students wishing to complete this program on a full-time basis will work through four consecutive semesters for a total of 36 credit hours. Classes begin at 6 p.m. with cohorts beginning in the fall and spring semesters.
7.1.7 Format
Each 15-week semester is divided into two 7-week sessions with a 1-week break in the middle. Each class taken in the 7-week format meets ONE night per week from 6 -9 p.m. and the first and last Saturdays of the session for 4.75 hours per Saturday. Classes are offered on Tuesday or Thursday evenings.
In some cases classes are better suited to run in a 15-week format. Classes that run over the entire semester meet ONE per week for 3 hours per night from 6 -9 p.m. Full semester classes meet on Monday or Wednesday evenings. More about our program format »
