Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy
Medaille’s Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s degree in Buffalo is designed to prepare students to work with couples and families by providing both theoretical and practical skills. The emphasis is to train competent clinicians who conceptualize individual and family issues from a systems perspective. The training takes place at the Medaille Family Counseling Center, which is a joint venture with Lake Shore Behavioral Health. Upon completion of the program, graduates seek employment in public and private sectors, where they work under supervision to complete the 1,500-hour New York State experience requirement for licensure eligibility.
Classes held one weekend each month (Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Four-week interval of online learning and independent study between class sessions
Weekly supervision with a faculty member during practicum, for a total of 100 hours; practicum requires minimum commitment of 10 hours per week
500 clinical hours (a minimum of 250 must be relational)

The Medaille Family Counseling Center serves as a counselor-in-training facility for students enrolled in Medaille College’s Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. This unique collaboration between Lake Shore Behavioral Health and Medaille is a fully licensed Lake Shore mental health outpatient treatment location offering families and individuals evidence-based mental health therapy. The state-of-the-art facility affords graduate level students an in-depth, first-hand learning experience that is unparalleled in Western New York.
