Communications major's fingers operating a sound board

Do you rearrange your schedule to watch Monday Night Football? Are the walls of your room covered with posters of Olympic record-breakers? Combine a love of sports with the skills of business in our Sport Management program. As with many of our degrees, our Sport Management degree is unique to Western New York. Our faculty will prepare you to dive into this emerging field. After graduation - or before, during an internship - you could be working with:

  • Professional and collegiate athletic teams and franchises
  • Facility and event management, operations and security
  • Athletic Coaching and Leadership
  • Sport marketing, promotion, sponsorship and naming rights
  • Sports law, employment and personnel management
  • Commercial development of sport and sporting properties
  • Strategic, tactical and change management
  • Broadcasting, media and technology
  • Community Recreation - YMCA, community centers or after-school programs
  • Health and Wellness - health and fitness centers, spas and resorts

Because the $500 billion sport industry demands sport communicators, marketers, administrators, and managers with a specialized combination of functional business and sport management skills, the Sport Management program serves students who have a desire to be involved in any aspect of the commercial sport-related enterprise.

In a highly competitive field, a Sport Management degree helps identify you above the rest. It identifies you as someone who understands the dynamics of sport management and someone who is serious about a career in this field. Potential careers include: Sportswriter, Athletic Camp Coordinator, Account Representative, Sports Information Director, Fitness Facility Director and Director of Promotions, among others.

Medaille’s Sport Management program is accredited by the International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). Medaille holds membership in the North American Society for Sports Management and the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Sport Management program was developed using the joint accreditation standards of NASSM and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).

I'm grateful for the education I've received.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
