Prior to 6:00 a.m. each morning, the Public Safety Director and the Operations Director will evaluate the condition of the campuses and surrounding communities and make a recommendation to Dr. Richard Jurasek, College President, to close the College.
If the decision is made to close, the Public Safety Director will notify the Communications Director, who will contact the various radio/television stations. The Public Safety Director will act as backup for notification to the media if the Communications Director is unavailable.
In addition to the media outlets, school closing information will be broadcast over the Medaille College Emergency Alert System. Text messages, e-mails and messages to cell, office and home phones will be sent to everyone enrolled in this as well as the information will be placed on the Medaille website home page at www.medaille.edu and at www.medaille.edu/alert. Go to the Alerts page to enroll if you have not already done so.
In the event of a campus closing, the following departments are required to report to campus:
These departments reporting to campus will be asked to stay as long as is necessary.
Note: If day classes are canceled, do not assume evening classes are canceled.
Similar to the daytime closing, the Public Safety Director and the Operations Director will evaluate the current conditions and evening forecasts and make a recommendation to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Public Safety Director or the Operations Director will contact the Communications Director of the decision to close prior to 3:30 p.m., on class days, so the College has enough time to contact the radio/television stations.
If day classes have been canceled, but evening classes are to be held, the Public Safety Director or the Operations Director will notify the Communications Director to contact the radio/television stations.
If the College must be closed after classes have begun, the order of departure will be as follows: first, students; second, faculty and staff; third, administration; and last, Information Office personnel.

The policy and procedure for closing the campuses for weekend classes is the same as for daytime closing.
The Public Safety Director or the Operations Director will contact the Communications Director of the decision to cancel weekend classes. The Communications Director will notify the various radio/television stations and the Directors of Residence Life and the Library.

The decision to close the Amherst Campus will be made by the Public Safety Director and the Operations Director in consultation with the Amherst Campus Executive Director. The decision to close the Rochester Campus will be made by the Public Safety Director and the Operations Director in consultation with the Rochester Campus Assistant Director.
If the Amherst and/or Rochester Campuses have been canceled, the Public Safety Director or the Operations Director will notify the Communications Director to contact the radio/television stations.
