Commuter Student Dining Guide

2007-08

Why would I sign up for declining balance dollars if I have kitchen facilities in my apartment?

The time that you use to shop, plan, cook and clean up after your meal could be used to study, meet with friends or just have fun. Why should you worry about all this when it could be our concern?

If I don’t have a lot of time to eat, should I still consider purchasing declining balance dollars?

Absolutely! We know that most commuter students don’t have a lot of time to sit down and eat a meal. Your Declining Balance account offers you the flexibility of a la carte when you decide to use it.

What do I do if my Declining Balance runs out?

Each time you make a purchase using your account, your balance will be displayed at the register and on your receipt. If your balance runs low, you may add additional funds at any time by going to the Sullivan Center, C203. Additional funds may be added in $25 amounts.

How does the declining balance dollars work?

As a Declining Balance Dollar member, your student ID card allows you to use your Declining Balance Dollars. When you sign up, select your balance amount based on your academic schedules, eating patterns and social life. You can sign up for declining balance dollars for as little as $50; however, average student buying patterns suggest an initial deposit of $300 per semester!

Accepted like cash in our dining facility, a Declining Balance account works on the same principle as a debit card. You can use your dollars on the card to purchase beverages, snacks, or even a full meal in the Sullivan Center and can be used for purchases at our South Dorm Snack Bar. Each time you make a purchase, the amount purchased is subtracted from your account balance. Any unused Declining Balance Dollars will carry over from semester to semester but not from year to year. Additional dollars can be added to your account at any time in $25 increments.

Please Note: Unused Declining Balance Dollars are nonrefundable at the end of the academic year. Select your account balance according to your expected spending habits and remember, you can purchase additional fund Dollars by contacting Mary Johnson (mjohnson@medaille.edu), in the Sullivan Center, C203.
