Student Involvement Center
FAQs
Q. If my student gets involved on campus, won't this involvement effect his/her school work?
The Student Involvement Center at Medaille strongly encourages students to balance their time and work on time management techniques.
The staff of the office frequently has conversations with students on study skills, class attendance and the importance of good study habits. Student Involvement also works frequently with faculty on campus so that students may attend educational or cultural programming for extra credit or with their class. We believe very strongly in learning inside and outside the classroom.
Q. Isn't it better for my student to just focus on school work rather than joining clubs and having fun all the time?
Actually, students who join clubs and get involved on campus have a tendency to develop healthy peer relationships that keep them happy, healthy and in school. Also, many of our clubs here at Medaille are related to academics or social awareness. Therefore, your student will be furthering their classroom learning during their free time!
Q. Are all the programs on and off campus free?
Almost all of the programming that happens on campus is free! When we provide off-campus trips or events we will sometimes charge Medaille students a discounted fee. We keep this fee as low as possible and also offer discounted fees to guests (such as parents)! Students have the option to purchase discounted theatre tickets, trips to New York City and more!
Q. Are students supervised during off-campus trips?
Yes. All off-campus events have at least two chaperones, more if necessary. Students understand that all behavior off-campus is representative of Medaille College. Chaperones also provide an opportunity for students to get to know more administrators on campus!
Q. What skills will my student learn by being involved that will help them get a job after graduation?
Students who are a part of a club or organization learn valuable leadership, teamwork, budget management, time management and problem-solving skills. All skills that employers, when asked, say they are looking for.
