Our Office

The objectives of this office include Management Information Systems, Academic Computing Center services and Information Services. The goal is to be responsive to the data management and informational needs of the College, the academic computer needs of students and faculty and to support College endeavors.

The major responsibilities are as follows:

Academic Computing Center

The Academic Computing Center (ACC) is located on the second floor of Huber Hall and consists of a 30-workstation open lab, a 25-workstation classroom and a 20-workstation classroom. All ACC computers run Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 and are networked via fiber optic backbone accessing the Internet through a T3 line.

The PC lab in H209 is a hive of student computer activity. This public access lab houses 30 new Dell OptiPlex 745 PCs with DVD combo drives and easy access USB 2.0 ports. The lab is equipped with flatbed scanners and all three PC rooms have laser and inkjet printers. IT staff are on-site to assist students. All PCs run the Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 suite of software programs plus various utility applications. Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005, SPSS 15 and other course-specific software applications are also available. Standard items include Adobe's Flash and Shockwave players, Adobe Reader 8, QuickTime and PowerDVD.

Select machines are configured for multi-media project activity with such applications as Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 and ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro 14. For enhanced presentations and visual demonstrations both PC classrooms are equipped with an overhead projector and an interactive, touch-sensitive Smart-Board. All PCs are protected with Symantec's Corporate Edition AntiVirus program, providing daily virus definition updates.

Management Information Systems

The Management Information Systems office is responsible for the Administrative Database. This computing resource provides an information store for all the data needed to be collected and retained for purposes of Admission, Registration, Financial Services and Student Services. The goal of MIS is to provide the end users in each department with convenient access via menus on their machines to frequently needed data and reports. In addition MIS processes requests for more complicated reporting on the data and for mailing labels or merge files. Finally, MIS attempts to accommodate security concerns over the privacy of the data collected.

Information Services and Technology

The main purpose of the Information Technology Department is to purchase, set up and maintain all computers, laptops, and peripheral for various offices. These offices include the Accelerated Learning Program, administrative offices, as well as academic offices, MBA program, etc. Information Technology provides connectivity between other campuses and remote sites with the Main campus.
