Technology at Medaille

At Medaille College, you will find a small campus with a commitment to current technology for students. There are a number of options for completing term papers, researching the Internet, creating World Wide Web pages, e-mail correspondence, developing interactive presentations, along with additional multimedia applications.

MERLIN, the Medaille Electronic Resources Library Information Network, provides our students with Internet access to a wide variety of information sources worldwide. The automated Library contains approximately 50,000 volumes, 350 print and over 1,000 non-print periodical titles, and access to CD-ROM software. The on-line information systems, including the Internet, are available along with expert help to assist the patron. Library services are electronically accessible through Medaille's Home Page on the Internet (http://www.medaille.edu). Individual study carrels, study tables, and an informal lounge area are available for the convenience of students. Cooperative arrangements with various colleges and universities in the area and across the state provide access to a wide range of materials.

New Media Institute @ Medaille College

The New Media Institute (NMI) is dedicated to teaching and training all range of students in the trends of multimedia technologies. This includes the necessary skills to use hardware and software to create interactive CD-ROMs, design World Wide Web pages, create presentations, and compile digital & printed senior portfolios. The New Media Institute along with the rest of the computer classrooms and facilities are available for your use while completing your degree program at Medaille College. If you're interested in a career incorporating multimedia, look into our newly established Interactive Multimedia Certificate program.

In addition, the NMI's multimedia lab provides the use of 10 state-of-the art Macintosh computers with superdrives (CD-Rom/DVD), ViewSonic 17" 32bit color monitors with high end internal speakers, audiovisual capabilities, flat bed scanner, Nikon film/slide scanner, black and white laser printer, color laser jet printer, graphic tablets, digital still cameras, recordable CD-ROM burner and T1 Internet access. This facility also provides all the necessary software to create video presentations, computer animation, 3D rendering, image and sound manipulation.

For the creation of World Wide Web pages, the New Media Institute provides access to the latest versions of the following browsers: Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and America Online.

Television Production Studio and WMCB-AM Radio

While completing your degree at Medaille College, you may take advantage of our fully operational television production studio and radio station to create high end professional multimedia presentations. The studio and WMCB-AM are supervised under the guidance of the College Media/Communications program.
