Requirements on Residence Hall Computers

For access to the Medaille Campus Network you must:

  1. Have current anti-virus protection, and be clean of viruses and spyware
  2. Be current on OS updates/firewalls
  3. Have your machine named properly
  4. Install a Network Interface Card (NIC) and a Ethernet patch cable. (Setup Directions Below)
  5. Register your computer/laptop with online registration system.
    This is done through your room by opening up your internet browser and connecting to a webpage (e.g. www.google.com). A step-by-step Web page will guide you through how to register your connection.

Supported Systems Include:

  1. Mac OS X, Windows2000 Pro (SP4) or Windows XP (SP2)
  2. Internet Explorer 6.01 and above or Safari 1.2 and above.
  3. Machines with a minimum of 256MB of memory

The only protocol that will be supported is TCP/IP, all others MUST be removed off your machine. See below to see which protocols are installed on your machine.

Windows 2000 Professional

  • Click on the START BUTTON
  • Go to SETTINGS
  • Click on CONTROL PANEL
  • Double click on NETWORK and DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS
  • Double Click on Local Area Connection
  • Click PROPERTIES
  • You will see a list of Clients, Adapters, and Protocols.
  • Clients will have a picture of a Computer next to it, Adapters will have a picture of a Circuit Board next to it and Protocols will have a picture of Cable joining another cable next to it. For PROTOCOLS, make sure TCP/IP is the only one installed. UNINSTALL the others.

Windows XP

  • Click on the START BUTTON
  • Click on CONTROL PANEL
  • Click on NETWORK and INTERNET CONNECTIONS
  • Double click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS
  • Double Click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS
  • You will see a list of Clients, Adapters, and Protocols.
  • Clients will have a picture of a Computer next to it, Adapters will have a picture of a Circuit Board next to it and Protocols will have a picture of Cable joining another cable next to it. For PROTOCOLS, make sure TCP/IP is the only one installed. UNINSTALL the others.
