Parking Permit Policy

Effective August 15, 2007

This Policy is in effect for all vehicles parked on the Main Campus and Amherst Campus.

All First Year Resident Students will NOT be allowed a Parking Permit to park a personal vehicle on the Main Campus, effective the 2007 Fall Semester.

All New Day Commuter Students will park at our auxiliary lot located on the corner of Parkside and Jewitt Pkwy, the Buffalo Zoo lot. A shuttle between this lot and the Main Campus will be available every 15 minutes from 7am – 6pm, Monday-Friday. A Buffalo Metro NFTA bus pass may be obtained for all undergraduate students at the Public Safety Office. Public Safety Officers will be on-duty at this lot from 7am until the last car leaves, Monday – Friday.

If the Main Campus Parking Lots become full, all vehicles will be directed to park at the Buffalo Zoo Parking Lot and shuttled to the Main Campus.

Every Student, Faculty or Staff member must display a valid color coded parking permit on their personal vehicle while parked on the Main Campus, Amherst Campus or at the Buffalo Zoo lot. Permits may be obtained at the Campus Public Safety Office, 2 Agassiz Circle. Students parking permits must be renewed at the start of each fall semester.

Prior to the issuance of any parking permit, an application (Public Safety Information sheet) needs to be filled out. A valid Drivers license and vehicle registration must be presented. A student class schedule will be needed to obtain a parking permit.

Faculty/Staff hanging parking permits shall be placed on the back of the inside rearview mirror in a manner which is readable from the outside of the vehicle. Student stick-on-decal permits must be affixed to the back of the rearview mirror (driver's side) so it can be seen from the front windshield.

Parking Permits are valid in any legal parking space on Main Campus or Amherst Campus. Exceptions, Handicapped Parking and spaces designated for a specific purpose.

Vehicles parked in Handicapped spaces must display a NYS handicapped plate or handicapped tag.

Vehicles must park within the clearly marked lined parking spaces. Vehicles occupying more than one parking space or parked diagonally will be subject to a parking ticket.

Parking is not permitted in areas marked - “Reserved for Office of the President”, “Delivery”, “Loading Zone”, “Commercial Vehicles Only”, “No Standing”, “No Parking” and “No Overnight Parking 11pm-7am”, near Fire Hydrants, in the Fire Lanes or on the grass.

Vehicles illegally parked may be towed at the owner’s expense. This will include the parking summons, towing and vehicle storage charge.

All bicycles are to be locked in bike racks. Bicycles are not permitted in any of the buildings. You are responsible for securing your own bicycle.

Snow Removal Policy

From November 1st – April 15th, “No Overnight Parking” is allowed between the hours of 11:00pm – 7:00am on all Roadways, Front Parking Lot, Admissions House, and the Rear Parking Lot (behind the Main Building from Huber Hall to the roadway along side of the Sullivan Campus Center) for snow removal.

A Resident Student Overnight Parking Map is posted in each Residence Hall, the Main Building, Campus Center and at the Campus Public Safety Office for your information.

Note: Any vehicle found in violation of this policy will be subject to a parking summons and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Adjudication Policy

Anyone who wishes to contest the issuance of a Parking Summons must do so in writing within 10 days from the date the summons was issued. NO DISPUTES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE 10 DAYS! Forms are available at the Campus Public Safety Office.

An Adjudication Review Committee will preside over all hearings and will render a decision after all facts are presented.

All tickets must be paid at the Public Safety Office, 2 Agassiz Circle between the hours of 8am and 3pm Mon. – Fri., or by mail to the Public Safety Office.

Fines range from $20.00 to $50.00 depending on the violation. Non-payment will result in the doubling of fines and a hold will be placed on your account. This hold will result in the violator being unable to register for classes, receive grades and/or transcripts.
