STUDENT LOAN ALERT

As of Fall 2010, Medaille College will be participating in the Federal Direct Loan Program. All students will now receive Stafford Loans directly through the U.S. Department of Education, rather than through private lenders participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).

  2. Click on the green sign in button. You will need a PIN to sign in; this is the same PIN used to complete the FAFSA. A borrower who does not have a PIN can request one at www.pin.ed.gov
  3. Click on Complete Master Promissory Note
  4. Click on Subsidized/Unsubsidized
  5. Fill in the necessary information. Be sure to sign with your PIN and submit.
  6. The Financial Aid Office will be notified electronically when you have completed your MPN. This must be done for you to receive your Stafford Loan(s).

Eligibility for Aid

An applicant's eligibility for financial aid is determined by an evaluation of the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application (NY residents only).

Most aid is awarded on the basis of "financial need." Financial need is the difference between the student's cost of education and the amount the family/student is expected to contribute to the student's education. The cost of education is determined by the Financial Aid Office and includes such things as tuition & fees, books & supplies, room & board, transportation expenses, and personal expenses. The amount of the family/student contribution is determined by a federal formula which evaluates the information (income, assets, family size, number in college, etc.) provided on the FAFSA.

Eligibility for the New York State grant program (TAP) is based on New York State net taxable income.

To be eligible for aid, you must be matriculated in a degree or certificate program, must be a United States citizen or permanent resident enrolled for at least six credits per semester. For TAP, you must be enrolled for 12 credit hours per semesterand be a New York State resident.
