Steps for Applying for Financial Aid
STEP ONE: Applying for a PIN (it will take 3-4 days to get a PIN)
If you have received an award letter you most likely have completed this.
In order to complete the FAFSA on the Web, you need to apply for a U.S. Department of Education personal identification number (PIN) @ www.pin.ed.gov. Once you have your PIN # go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the FAFSA. A helpful tool to use when completing the FAFSA online is the FAFSA on the web worksheet. This is available at your school or you can print one at the FAFSA website -www.fafsa.ed.gov.
STEP TWO: Completing your FAFSA
Use FAFSA on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply for financial aid. It takes approximately two weeks to process your FAFSA on the Web. When applying for FAFSA, please make sure to use the Federal Code for Medaille College (all Locations) which is 002777. If selected for verification, you will be advised by the Financial Aid Office and requested to send in additional information.
STEP THREE: TAP Application from HESC (NYS residents only)
Upon completion of the FAFSA, if you listed NY as your state of residency, you will find a link to the TAP website. You can complete the TAP application online. At the time you apply for TAP you will be required to create a user ID and PIN. If you opt not to continue at this time, you may apply online at a later date. The website is www.tapweb.org. The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYHESC) will determine your eligibility. They will email or mail you an award certificate. We will include the TAP amount on your award letter. If you have not completed the TAP application, this amount will be estimated on your award letter.
STEP FOUR: Financial Aid Award Letter
Medaille College will construct your financial aid package once all information is received. If you followed all the steps, the financial aid package will be determined as soon as possible.
STEP FIVE: Completing a Master Promissory Note
Students receiving a Federal Stafford Loan must complete an e-MPN (Electronic Master Promissory Note) so your Federal Stafford Loan can be processed. Follow the steps below:
- Log on to www.hesc.org
- Click on Students, Families and & Counselors, select NY or outside NY
- Click on Complete the E-MPN
- Click on GO under Stafford Loan (Undergraduate/Graduate Students)
STEP SIX: Entrance Loan Counseling
If you are a new student entering Medaille with zero "0" credits you will need to fill out at entrance interview. The form could be found at mappingyourfuture.org.
