Ventura Named AMCC Coach of the Year
The Medaille College softball team had their most successful season ever in 2008 as they won the AMCC regular season title. As a result of their strong season head coach, Robyn Ventura, was voted as the AMCC Coach of the Year. It is her first time receiving that distinction. The Lady Mavs received a bid to the ECAC Upstate Tournament and finished the year with a (21-17) record. The (21) wins is the most in a season in program history.
Women's Lacrosse Overwhelmed by Utica
(Utica, NY) - The Medaille College women's lacrosse team made its inaugural appearance in the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse Tournament today. It would be Medaille tallying the games first goal just (1:55) into play. However, it would be all Utica after that as they overwhelmed Medaille enroute to a (22-4) win. The Lady Mavs received a pair of goals from freshman, Marilyn Meyer (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) in the loss. While sophomore, keeper, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) stopped (13) Utica shots. The Lady Mavs end the year with a (7-4) record. The seven wins are the most in school history.
Softball Falls in ECAC Tournament
(Oneonta, NY) - A five run third inning did in the Lady Mavs as they fell (8-1) to Oneonta State in the opening round of the ECAC Upstate Softball Championships. The Lady Mavs trailed (2-0) heading into the third inning before the Red Dragons went on their run. For Medaille their lone run was scored by senior, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) who doubled to get on base prior to scoring, Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) knocked that run in. The loss ends Medaille's most successful season ever at (21-17).
Athletic Department to Hold Annual Banquet
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College Athletic Department will host their annual awards banquet on Monday (5/5) at 7:00pm in the Sullivan Center Gymnasium. The annual banquet recognizes those student-athlete's who excel academically and athletically. The night is highlighted by the announcement of the Male and Female Athlete's of the Year. Softball Receives ECAC Bid
The Medaille College softball team will participate in the ECAC Upstate Tournament for the first time in program history. Medaille is coming off its best season ever as they finished at (21-16), having won the AMCC regular season title. The Lady Mavs will head to Oneonta State to take on the Red Dragons at 1:00pm on Wednesday (5/7).
Women's Lacrosse Gets ECAC Nod
For the first time in their history the Medaille College women's lacrosse team has been selected to participate in the ECAC Upstate Tournament. The #5 seeded Lady Mavs finished the regular season at (7-3) and will faceoff against #4 seed Utica College (8-7). The game will be played at Utica College on Wednesday (5/7) at 4:00pm. The winner of that game will face top seeded Brockport State on Saturday (5/10) at 11:00am in Brockport.
Softball Ends Run in AMCC Tournament
(Buffalo, NY) - Despite winning (20) games in the regular season the Lady Mavs fell victim to two hot teams as their NCAA Tournament hopes were dashed by Frostburg State and Penn State-Behrend. The Lady Mavs lost their opening game to Frostburg (3-0), beat Pitt-Greensburg (11-9) in their second game and they dropped a game that was suspended due to rain (8-3) to eventual AMCC champion Penn State-Behrend. The Lady Mavs are currently (21-16) on the year and they will await the ECAC Tournament selection to see if their season will continue.

Men's Lacrosse Has Milestone Day
(Amherst, NY) - After suffering two devastating losses in a row the men's lacrosse team bounced back in dominating fashion as they overwhelmed Morrisville State (14-8) at U.B.'s Kunz Field. The win moves the Mavs to (5-7) on the season and it matches the highest win total in team history. The fourteen goals scored in the game by Medaille gives them (116) on the year, which is also a team record. The Mavs were led in the win by junior, midfielder, David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who had another huge day as he netted (4) goals and dished out (4) assists. Freshman, midfielder, Jim Luthart (Amherst, NY/Amherst) had the best game of his young career as he scored (3) goals and added an assist in the win. Medaille to Host AMCC Softball Championships
As a result of winning the AMCC regular season title the Lady Mavs will host the AMCC Tournament. The tournament will be played at Hilbert College with Medaille handling all tournament details. The opening round is on Friday (5/2) with games being played at 10am (#3 Penn State-Behrend vs. #6 Pitt-Greensburg), 12pm (#4 Pitt-Bradford vs. #5 Frostburg State), 2pm (#2 Lake Erie vs. winner of game one), and 4pm (#1 Medaille vs. winner of game two). Softball Wins AMCC Regular Season Title
(Buffalo, NY) - For the first time in their history the Medaille College softball team is the AMCC regular season champs as they swept Penn State-Altoona and Mt. Aloysius over the weekend. The Lady Mavs finish regular season conference play at (16-2) and are currently (20-14) overall. The (20) wins is the most ever in a single season for the Lady Mavs. They will host the AMCC Championships this weekend (May 3 - May 4) and they will receive a first round bye in the tournament. Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight
(Aurora, NY) - The women's lacrosse team continued its hot play as they held on for an (8-7) win over Wells College. The win is the sixth straight for the Lady Mavs and it matches the most ever wins for Medaille as they are now (6-3) on the year. In the win Medaille was led by freshman, Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who had a team high (4) goals. Golf Has Milestone Day
(Erie, PA) - For the first time in their history the men's golf team won their first tournament involving more than two teams. The Mavs were the class of the field at the Penn State-Behrend Spring Invitational in which they beat out nine other Division III schools with a score of (305). The Mavs were led by freshman, John Haberman (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) who was a medalist for Medaille with a team low (73). The win comes on the heels of the Mavs second place finish at the AMCC Fall Championships. (Dated 4.25.08)
Men's Lacrosse Gets Back on Track
(Amherst, NY) - For the third time in four games the men's lacrosse team came out on the winning end of things as they overwhelmed Wells College (16-3) at Amherst High School. The win moves the Mavs to (3-5) on the season. It was total domination for Medaille as they had eight players find the back of the net. Leading the way was junior, attackman, Jeff Zacharias (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) who tallied a game high (6) goals to go along with (2) assists. The Mavs also received another big day from their leading scorer as Dave Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) poured in (3) goals while dishing out (4) assists. Lady Mavs Win Third Straight
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College women's lacrosse team has put together a bit of a winning streak as they held on for a thrilling (10-9) victory over Morrisville State today at Nichols. The win is the third straight for Medaille as they move to (4-3) on the season. In the victory Medaille received a pair of hat tricks from two freshman as Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Marilyn Meyer (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each achieved that feat. For Nasca it is the second straight game with three goals. Between the pipes the Lady Mavs received another strong performance from sophomore, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) who stopped six Mustang shots. The Lady Mavs will host Tri-State University on Saturday (4/19) at 2:00pm for "Senior Day".
Women's Lacrosse Crushes Wells
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille women's lacrosse team evened their record at (3-3) with a suffocating (10-1) win over Wells College. They got off to a bit of a slow start as they took a (3-1) lead into halftime, before exploding for seven goals in the second stanza. The Lady Mavs were paced by Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) who had a game high (4) goals while teammate Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) chipped in with (3) goals of her own. The Mavs received strong play between the pipes as sophomore, keeper, Betty Herberger (Amherst, NY/Amherst) stopped (6 of 7) shots on goal. The Lady Mavs will host Morrisville State tomorrow (4/13) at 2:00pm at The Nichols School.
Volleyball Qualifies for ECAC Tournament
The men's volleyball team will continue its season as they will head to Newbury College in Boston, MA to play in the ECAC Championships. The Mavs will take on host Newbury College at 11:00am on Saturday (4/12) in the semifinals. The Championship game will take place later that day.
Baker and Westling Sweep AMCC Honors
After a superb week for the Lady Mavs softball team, senior, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) and sophomore, pitcher, Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) swept the AMCC Player of the Week awards. Baker was named the AMCC Player of the Week while Westling garnered Pitcher of the Week honors.
Softball Stays Unbeaten in AMCC Play
(Greensburg, PA) - The Medaille softball team continued its winning ways by sweeping Pitt-Greensburg. In the opening game the Lady Mavs took down the Bobcats (5-1) behind a strong pitching performance from Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) as she threw a complete game four hitter and struck out (10) batters. She also chipped in from the plate as she went (3 for 4) while knocking in a run. In the second game freshman Jessica Sisti (Depew, NY/Depew) picked up the win while Westling recorded the save. Senior, catcher, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) had a double, plated a run and stole a base as Medaille outlasted the Bobcats (5-3). With the sweep the Lady Mavs have won six straight and are now (9-5) overall and (6-0) in AMCC action.
Men's Lacrosse Breezes Past Dolphins
(Buffalo, NY) - For the second straight game the men's lacrosse team dominated their opponent as they crushed Mt. St. Vincent (18-3). The win moves the Mavs to (2-4) on the season. It was a great all around effort for the Mavs as they received multiple four goal performances from David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who finished with (4 goals, 4 assists), Brett Bridges (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) (4 goals, 2 assists) and Joe Glieco (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (4 goals). It's the first time in school history that three Mavs registered four goals each in a game. The game was decided in the first quarter as the Mavs tallied 7 of the games first 8 goals. They would carry a (13-2) lead into halftime and then they cruised to victory. The Mavs will host Keuka College on Wednesday (4/9) at 4:00pm.
Women's Lacrosse Gets Second Win
(Buffalo, NY) - After suffering three straight losses the Lady Mavs got back on track with a (13-3) thumping of Waynesburg. The Lady Mavs were led by Melyssa Tollar (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) who notched a game high (5) goals while, senior, Kim Coleman (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran), scored twice and assisted on two more Lady Mavs markers. The win moves Medaille to (2-3)on the season.
Women's Lacrosse Falls to Keuka
(Keuka Park, NY) - The Medaille College women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker at Keuka College (10-8) on Thursday. The Lady Mavs were led by freshman, Corinne Nasca (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg), who notched her first ever hat trick in the loss. The Lady Mavs fall to (1-3) on the year as they will look to get back on track on Sunday (4/6) as they host Waynesburg College for a 12:00pm faceoff.
Softball Sneaks Past Pitt-Bradford
(Amherst, NY) - The Medaille College softball team stayed unbeaten in AMCC play as they swept the Panthers from Pitt-Bradford winning (9-8) in game one and (3-2) in the second game. The Lady Mavs received strong play from senior, Shannon Superczynski (Cheektowaga, NY/Villa Maria) who pounded out three doubles and a home run in the double header. In the opener, Amanda Westling (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) recorded the win on the mound while teammate, Jessica Sisti (Depew, NY/Depew) struck out five enroute to the game two win. The Lady Mavs improve to (7-5) overall and stay perfect in conference play at (4-0).
Men's Lacrosse Earns First Win
(Buffalo, NY) - After dropping their first four games of the year the Medaille men's lacrosse team got on track with a (14-11) win over Washington & Jefferson College. It was only the second time in their history that they have beaten the President's. The Mavs jumped out to a (5-1) lead after the first quarter and took a two goal lead into halftime. The third quarter proved to be the deciding factor as the Mavs netted five more markers enroute to the win. The Mavs received a huge game from freshman, attacker, Joe Glieco (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) who had (6) goals on the day, including two with the man advantage. Also having a big day was David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who scored twice while assisting on five other Mav goals. The Maverick defense held strong only allowing six even strength goals as they were led by junior, keeper, Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who finished with (12) saves. The Mavs improve to (1-4) on the year as they will host the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Sunday (4/6) at 12:00pm at the Nichols School.
Baseball Sweeps Lake Erie
(Painesville, OH) - After dropping three straight games and falling to (0-2) in AMCC play the Mavs bounced back with a pair of wins over Lake Erie College. In the first game of the doubleheader the Mavs crushed the Storm (21-9) being led by senior, Nick Andreassi (Rochester, NY/Greece-Arcadia) who went (4 for 6) from the plate while scoring three runs and driving in five. On the mound, sophomore, Brian Vital (Grafton, MA/Grafton) would get the win as he went (4-1/3) innings while striking out three. In the second game they survived the Storm by squeaking out a (6-5) victory. That game saw another senior stepping up with a big game as Derek Nero (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East) scored a run and got three more Mavs across the dish as he went (1 for 3) in the nightcap. It would be senior, Ryan Amos (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) who would get the win for the Mavs as he went (6-1/3) strong while striking out two Storm batters and walking none. The Mavs improve to (6-7) overall and they even their conference mark at (2-2). The Mavs will host Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (4/5) at 1:00pm. (Dated 4.1.08)
Volleyball Earns Bid to NECVA Tournament
(Buffalo, NY) - With a win over Villa Julie College in the NECVA Western Division playoffs the men's volleyball team earned a berth in the NECVA Tournament. The Mavs are currently (15-16) on the year and they earned a #13 seed in the conference playoffs where they will face #4 seed, Stevens Institute of Technology, on Friday (4/4) at 4:00pm. (Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men's lacrosse team dropped a hard fought game to Brockport State (10-5) today at The Nichols School. The first half was a back and forth affair that saw the visiting Golden Eagles take a (4-3) lead into the break. The third quarter would be the deciding stanza as the Mavs were called for four of their nine penalties and were outscored (4-0) in that frame. The teams would tally two goals apiece in the fourth as the Mavs succumbed to Brockport. In the loss the Mavs received another command performance from junior, midfielder, David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who netted a hat trick for the Mavs. He leads the team in scoring in 2008 with (7) goals and (4) assists for (11) points. Volleyball Falls in Regular Season Finale
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men's volleyball team dropped its final regular season match of the season (3-1); (30-22, 26-30, 28-30, 25-30) to Quincy University. The Mavs came out of the gate hot but the visitors weathered the storm and rallied for the win. In the loss the Mavs were led by Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) who had a team high (17) kills and Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) who had (50) assists and (11) digs. The loss moves the Mavs to (14-14) on the season as they will head to the NECVA Western Division playoffs this weekend at Eastern Mennonite University. (Dated 3.25.08)
Baseball Wins Opener
(Cocoa, FL) - The Medaille College baseball team opened the 2008 season on the right foot as they took down St. Mary's College (7-5) in Cocoa, FL. The Mavs were playing in their first game of the year while St. Mary's was playing its sixteenth game thus far. The Mavs were led by senior, Tom Lyman (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) who went (3 for 5) from the plate while scoring a run. He also was the winning pitcher of record going five innings while striking out six. The Mavs are (1-0) on the year and they will take on Oneonta State tomorrow (3/15) at 9:00am and then Norwich University at 4:00pm. Both games are in Cocoa, FL.
Men's Volleyball Splits at Endicott Tourney
(Beverly, MA) - Day one of the Endicott College March Mania Tournament was not kind to the Mavericks as they dropped matches to SUNY New Paltz (3-1) and M.I.T. (3-0). Day two would be much brighter as the Mavs bested both Villa Julie College (3-1) and Johnson & Wales (3-0). The Mavs finished 9th in the tournament and stand at (12-9) on the season. The Mavs will take on Hilbert on Wednesday (3/12) at 7:00pm in Hamburg, NY before heading to Florida for spring break.
Rochester Ends Title Hopes for Lady Mavs
(Scranton, PA) - A remarkable four year run came to an end this evening as the Lady Mavs fell to the University of Rochester (69-50) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. A shaky second half doomed Medaille as the Yellowjackets outscored them by (16) in the second stanza. It is the second time in three years that Rochester has ousted Medaille in the tournament's second round. The loss ends the career of seven seniors, including a triumvirate of seniors that changed the complexion of this program, as Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton), Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark), and Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) saw their days in the blue and gold come to an end, they each played in all (112) games of their career. Those three players names will forever be synonymous with greatness as the Lady Mavs went a remarkable (95-17) over that span. The loss to Rochester ends Medaille's season as they finish with a (26-3) record.
Lady Mavs Continue Hunt for National Title
(Scranton, PA) - For the second time in three years the Medaille College women's basketball team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament. They did so by holding off a stubborn University of Scranton team (56-54). It was a sloppy game for both squads as they managed only (38) points in the first half of play as Medaille headed to the locker room with a (22-17) advantage. The second half would see both teams enjoying leads with Scranton holding the advantage late by seven. Senior, guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was terrific down the stretch as she scored (12) of her team high (14) points in the second stanza. While Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) posted another double/double with (11) points and (16) boards. The Lady Mavs will face the University of Rochester in round number two. Those two teams faced each other in the same round of the 2006 tournament with the Yellowjackets advancing. Earlier this year Medaille pasted Rochester on their home floor (67-51). With their win over Scranton the Lady Mavs match their best record ever at (26-2). Their game against Rochester will be tomorrow (3/8) at 7:00pm in Scranton, PA. The winner of that game will head to the Sweet 16.
Men's Lacrosse Game vs. Alfred Postponed
The men's lacrosse game scheduled for today (3/7) against Alfred University has been moved to Friday, May 3rd at 4:00pm in Alfred, NY. The game change is due to severe weather conditions. (Dated 3.7.08)
Men's Basketball Season Ends at Cortland
(Cortland, NY) - The men's basketball team saw its most successful season in eight years come to an end in the ECAC Quarterfinals as they fell to Cortland State (81-69). The Mavs held the lead for much of the game but came a bit unraveled in the late stages before succumbing to the Red Dragons. The Mavs received a command performance off the bench from sophomore, forward, Kelly Condello (Fairport, NY/Fairport) who had a team high (19) points on (9 of 13) shooting from the field. In the final game of his career, senior, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) finished with (12) points as the guard leaves as the schools all time leading scorer. With the loss the Mavs finish the season at (15-13).
Men's Volleyball Falls to Nazareth
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men's volleyball team dropped their match with #6 ranked Nazareth College this evening (3-0); (21-30, 26-30, 22-30). The Mavs came into the match ranked #11 in the latest CBS College Sports/AVCA Top 15 National Ranking. They were facing a Nazareth squad that had climbed into the top spot in the national ranking only a week and a half ago. In the loss Medaille was led by sophomore, Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale), who finished with a match high (20) kills. Meanwhile, Nazareth was paced by Joe Petzoldt (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) who registered a team high (12) kills. The Mavs fall to (10-7) overall and (4-3) in NECVA Western Division play while Nazareth improves to (18-4) overall and (6-0) in NECVA action. The Mavs will head to Boston, MA this weekend to take part in the Endicott College Invitational. (Dated 3.4.08)

(Buffalo, NY) - When the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Bracket was announced this morning it had the Lady Mavs facing the University of Scranton, winners of the Landmark Conference. That game will take place on Friday (3/7) at Scranton at 8:00pm. The Lady Mavs advanced to the NCAA Tournament with their (69-55) win over Pitt-Greensburg in the AMCC Championship game on Saturday. This is the third consecutive trip to the tournament for Medaille as they have a (1-2) record in their three previous tournament games. Their lone win came against another Pennsylvania opponent, Washington & Jefferson College, in the 2006 tournament. The Lady Mavs are (25-2) on the year while The Scranton Royals stand at (21-5). (Buffalo, NY) - For the first time in team history the Medaille College men's basketball team has received a bid to the ECAC Tournament. They garnered the #6 seed in the Upstate Region and they will face Cortland State on the road on Wednesday (3/5) at 7:00pm. The Mavs fell in the AMCC semifinals to Lake Erie College (71-66) leaving them at (15-12) on the year. They will face a Cortland squad that is (19-7) on the season. (Buffalo, NY) - For a third consecutive season the Medaille College women's basketball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament as they outlasted Pitt-Greensburg (69-55) in the AMCC Championship game. The first half was a back and forth affair with Medaille leading by as many as (12) but needing a desperation three at the buzzer to take a (30-29) halftime lead. The second half was hard fought but Medaille made the most of their defensive pressure as they turned (19) Bobcats turnovers into (26) points. The Lady Mavs received strong play from their seniors as Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) was dominant in the post scoring a game high (18) points while pulling down a game high (15) boards. Guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) dropped in (16) points, grabbed (10) caroms, and dished out (5) assists while Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels) chipped in with (10) points and (8) rebounds. In the loss the Bobcats were led by Nicole Reiser (Renfrew, PA/Knoch) who led her team with (17) points, connecting on (4 of 6) from behind the arc. The Bobcats will await ECAC selection to see if their season will continue meanwhile the Lady Mavs will see where they are headed on Monday when the NCAA Tournament bracket is posted. Mavs Drop Thriller in AMCC Semifinals
(Erie, PA) - The men's basketball team saw its dream of an AMCC title fade away as they dropped a hard fought battle to Lake Erie College (71-66) in the second semifinal of the AMCC Tournament. Lady Mavs Advance to AMCC Championship Game
(Buffalo, NY) - For the third straight year the Medaille College women's basketball team will play in the AMCC Championship game as they used a strong second half performance to crush Penn State-Behrend (50-26) in the semifinals. The first half was sloppy for both teams as they combined for (27) turnovers and only (34) points in the opening stanza. The Lady Mavs used stifling defense and hot shooting down the stratch to put Lions away. Along the way a tremendous milestone was achieved as senior, guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) moved into 10th place on the NCAA Division III all time assists list with her (8) assist performance. She now has (642) helpers in her illustrious career. Senior, forward, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) asserted herself in the second half and finished the game with (14) points and (7) boards, both were game highs. Mavs Roll into Conference Semifinals
(Pittsburgh, PA) - The Medaille College men's basketball team made the most of their first AMCC postseason tournament appearance as they rolled past host La Roche College (75-55). The Mavs received a career performance from Jake Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland) who tallied a game and career high (17) points on a spectacular shooting night. Jake was (5 of 6) from the floor including hitting on (3 of 3) from behind the three point arc and hitting on (4 of 4) from the charity stripe. He also grabbed a team high (6) rebounds. The Mavs held a four point advantage at the half before steamrolling the Redhawks in the second stanza as they shot (58.3%) from the floor in that half. Continuing his hot play in the month of February Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) chipped in with (11) points and (4) boards while teammate Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) posted the same numbers. The Mavs had split two close games during the regular season with La Roche. AMCC Tournament Pairings Announced
For the first time since Medaille College joined the AMCC in 2004-2005 both basketball teams have qualified for the conference's postseason tournament. The Lady Mavs will host the tourney for the third straight year while the men will head to La Roche for a quarterfinal match-up with the Redhawks. Here is how the playoffs will go. On Tuesday (2/26) the men will head to Pittsburgh, PA for a 7:00pm quarterfinal match-up with La Roche. The winner will head to Penn State-Behrend for a semifinal match-up with Lake Erie College at 6:00pm on Friday (2/29). On the women's side the Lady Mavs will wait for the winner of La Roche vs. Penn State-Behrend which is being played on Tuesday (2/26) in Erie, PA. That semifinal will be played on Friday (2/29) at 5:00pm in the Sullivan Center while the second semifinal game will pit Lake Erie College against the winner of Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State-Altoona. Men's Volleyball Wins Third Straight
(Buffalo, NY) - The men's volleyball team came up with its third straight victory, a (3-0); (30-20, 30-14, 30-20) win over SUNY-IT, as they prepare to host the nations top team, Nazareth College, in their next match on Tuesday (3/4). The Mavs dominated SUNY-IT and won easily as they improved their record to (10-6) overall and (4-2) in NECVA Western Division play. In the win Medaille was spurred on by sophomore, Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) who finished with (13) kills, while teammate Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) came up with (40) assists. Men's Hoops Advances to AMCC Tournament
(Buffalo, NY) - For the first time since joining the AMCC in 2004 the Medaille College men's basketball team has qualified for the AMCC tournament. It took a big (77-57) win over crosstown rival Hilbert College to propel the Mavs into the postseason. When these two teams met earlier in the year the Mavs won in a nailbiter (66-61) this game would be much different as the Mavs dominated play. Leading the charge for Medaille were senior, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) who poured in a team high (21) points and sophomore, guard, Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) who contributed with (16) points, (4) boards, and (3) assists. The Hawks received another strong performance from senior, Dallas Reinard (Smethport, PA/Smethport) who closed out his great career with a game high (23) points. Another gritty performance was given by Medaille guard, Jacob Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland) who had (9) points, (8) boards, (4) assists, (2) steals, and (1) block. The Mavs improve to (14-11) overall and finish conference play at (9-9). While Hilbert falls to (12-13) overall and (8-10) in AMCC action. Lady Mavs End Regular Season With A Win
(Buffalo, NY) - On "Senior Day" the Medaille women's basketball team made quick work of the Hilbert Hawks as they rolled to a (64-39) win. This senior class has posted a (92-16) record over their four years thus far. It was a game that saw twelve Medaille players find the score sheet with no one player scoring in double digits. They received strong performances from four seniors as Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) posted a team high (9) points, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) dropped in (8) points, pulled down (7) boards and came up with (7) steals. With those steals she reaches the (400) steal mark for her career, the first Medaille basketball player to ever reach that mark. Guard, Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) had a great all around game as she posted (8) points and grabbed (7) boards while teammate Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels) scored (6) points and pulled down a game high (8) rebounds. The Lady Mavs finish the regular season at (23-2) overall and (17-1) in AMCC play. LeFevre Named Head Women's Soccer Coach
(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College women's soccer team will have a new leader as Athletic Director, Pete Lonergan, named Chris LeFevre the fourth head coach in the programs history. He takes over for Dan Krzyzanowicz who was at the helm of the Lady Mavs from (2004-2007) and compiled a (42-33-3) record in those four seasons. Coach LeFevre comes to Medaille with a wealth of knowledge and a record of success. He was an assistant men's coach at Canisius College for one year before moving on to Genesee Community College where he was the head coach of the men's program for three seasons and the head women's coach for two years. In his three years with the GCC men's team he compiled a (40-17-1) overall record and he led them to the 2006 Regional Final Four and the 2007 Western New York Athletic Conference Championship. In his stint as the women's coach his teams went (20-15-0) and in 2006 they reached the Regional Final Four and were the Western New York Athletic Conference Champions. Combined, he coached (3) All Americans, (12) All Region, and (18) All Conference players. He has earned his Advance National Diploma through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He has a Bachelors of Science in Sports Management from Adelphi University and a Masters of Science in Sports Administration from Canisius College. Basketball Teams Split With La Roche
(Pittsburgh, PA) - On an evening where the women's basketball team clinched their third straight AMCC regular season title with a (60-43) win over La Roche College, the men's team put itself in a win or be eliminated position with a (72-62) loss to the Redhawks. The men's team will host Hilbert College on Saturday in a game in which the winner will advance to the AMCC playoffs and the loser will be left wondering what could have been.
In the evening's opening game the Lady Mavs and Redhawks played uninspired basketball in the first half as they managed a mere (38) points between the two teams and headed into the break deadlocked at (19-19). The second half would belong to Medaille as they put on the pressure and responded offensively outscoring La Roche (41-24) in the second half. The Lady Mavs were led by Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels) who finished with a game high (18) points, to go along with (7) rebounds, and (3) blocked shots. While teammate Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) chipped in with (11) points, (8) rebounds, (4) steals, and (3) assists. The win moves Medaille to (22-2) overall and (16-1) in league play. They will host Hilbert on Saturday (2/23) at 1:00pm.
In the second game of the doubleheader the Mavs saw a halftime (26-24) lead disappear as the Redhawks found their groove in the second half enroute to victory. The Mavs received another strong game from sophomore, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) who dropped in (21) points for the second straight game while pulling down (8) caroms. Senior, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) registered (16) points on the night. The Mavs slip to (13-11) overall and fall below (.500) in AMCC play to (8-9). (Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille men's volleyball team notched its second straight victory over an NECVA Western Division foe as they cruised past Hilbert College (3-0); (30-19, 30-18, 30-17). In the victory the Mavs were led by sophomore, Andrew Nawotka (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) who had a match high (13) kills. The Hawks were led by Luke Whelan (Buffalo, NY/Lake Shore) who had a team high (6) kills.
