2008 Cumulative Season Statistics

2008 Outlook

It only took the Medaille Mavericks baseball team three short years to make there mark in the AMCC. With a (15-22) overall record and (13-5) in AMCC play, the Mavs clinched there first ever Regular Season Championship in school history, with a three-way tie for the overall best record in conference play. The 2008 Mavericks will stop at nothing to one up last seasons success.

Head Coach Ron Nero will return for his fifth straight season as back to back AMCC Coach of the Year in 2006 & 2007. Also returning for his fourth season is Assistant Coach Tim Slawek, Catching Coach Tony Sekuterski (3rd yr.) and Hitting Coach Kurt Hauser (2nd yr.).

The Mavs will look to depend on two senior starting pitchers for consistency, right handed pitcher Ryan Amos (Cheektowaga, NY) and left hander Kyle Golombek (Buffalo, NY).

Supplying the leadership up the middle will be two familiar faces; senior co-captain Nick Andreassi (Rochester, NY) will be at second base and at shortstop will be Senior Tom Lyman (Tonawanda, NY). Andreassi and Lyman both hit over .360 manning the 1 and 2 spots in the batting order, they will look to not only provide a solid defense with their chemistry, but also a steady offense. At the hot corner will be senior third basemen Don Jablonski (Cheektowaga, NY), across the diamond at the other corner will be senior slugger Dennis Hartman (West Seneca, NY). Behind the plate will be senior co-captain Tom Wasielewski (Cheektowaga, NY). Playing significant roles off the bench will be senior second basemen Rich Creamer (Niagara Falls, NY), as well as freshmen shortstop Mike Kogut (Syracuse, NY). Junior transfer Mike Ross (Celoron, NY) will be playing a significant role as well behind the plate.

Supplying the speed in the Mavericks outfield will be power hitting senior co-captain Derek Nero (Buffalo, NY), as well as senior Joe Kaminski (Camillus, NY). Along with Nero and Kaminski will be junior hitting prodigy Kevin Volker (Tonawanda, NY). Both Nero and Volker were elected for Second Team All-Conference; both outfielders had outstanding seasons at the plate, (Volker .380, Nero .378); they look to bring this same offensive outburst back to this years squad. Left handed sophomore transfer Brandon Lumadue (Cheektowaga, NY), will bring his sure handed glove as well as his smooth swing to the group.

Joining this years pitching staff will be junior transfer out of Jamestown Community College Jason Behnke (Cattaraugus, NY), as well as highly touted freshmen Matt Dunford (Buffalo, NY). Bringing their consistency into the later innings will be two solid sophomores in Brian Vital (Grafton, MA) and Mark Kaminski (Camillus, NY).
