2006 Summary

Season Statistics

2006 Outlook

The 2006 baseball Mavericks are entering this season with high hopes and expectations after a disappointing inaugural season in the competitive AMCC where they missed a playoff spot by one game. Their overall (12-23-1) record, (7-11) AMCC, included four losses by one run. The young Mavs need to learn how to close out and win the tight game and improve on allowing the opponents that one big inning which proved to be their Achilles heel last season.

The 2006 Mavs will count heavily this season on left handed senior pitcher Alex Domaradzki (North Tonawanda) and junior right hander/center fielder Kevin Maluchnik (Niagara Falls), who fashioned Medaille’s first ever no-hitter last season. Senior, captain, and third baseman Jeremy Callahan (Schenectady) will strive to provide needed leadership and improve after a difficult 2005 season when he made the unselfish transition from second base to third base to fill a team need.

The team welcomes back the smooth hitting middle infielder Kurt Hauser (Iroquois) after a season off, and sophomore second baseman Tom Wasielewski (St. Francis) who brings his (.391) freshman batting average to the 2006 season. The Maverick infield will be solidified by junior college transfer first baseman, Rich Urbanczyk (West Seneca East), who comes to the Mavs from Erie Community College. Also, Blake Nusbaum (Sweet Home) and Taylor Sekuterski (Depew) will split the catching duties vacated by the graduated Steve Grieco; Sekuterski also pitches.

On the hill pitchers Rich Seeger (Orchard Park), Kyle Golombek (St. Mary’s), Nick Andreassi (Arcadia), Don Jablonski (St. Francis) , and Andy Suppes (Jamesville-Dewitt) will all be counted on to step and battle for the third and fourth starting spot. The outfield will be manned by senior Jesse Windhausen (Dryden), Rob Falco (Yorktown), and Derek Nero (West Seneca East). Also contributing defensively in the outfield are Joe Kaminski (West Genesee) and freshman Andy Piniarski (West Seneca East).
