2007 Outlook

The 2007 Medaille Mavericks baseball team will look to improve upon last seasons success, as they finished with a (12-23) overall record and (8-12) AMCC mark. The Mavs finished in fifth place in the conference and made their first ever AMCC postseason appearance.

The Mavs will look to ride the right arms of senior, starters, co-captain Kevin Maluchnik (Niagara Falls, NY), and Rich Seeger (Orchard Park, NY). Maluchnik's (7) complete games in (11) starts and his sub-4 ERA landed him on the AMCC's 2nd Team All Coneference team last spring.

Manning the infield and supplying team leadership are co-captain, Nick Andreassi (Rochester, NY) at second base and Tom Lyman (Kenmore, NY) at shortstop. As fellow third year starters, their experience will hold the key to the teams success as the teams middle infield looks to be the strongest ever. Power hitting junior sluggers, Dennis Hartman (West Seneca, NY) and Nick Surace (Baldwinsville, NY) will be the solid foundation at the corners. Controlling the field from behind the plate is junior college transfer, Scott Caruana (West Seneca, NY). Smooth fielding junior college transfer, Rich Creamer (Niagara Falls, NY) will also see distributed time throughout the infield.

The Maverick's outfield will be held down by the teams speediest group. Juniors, Derek Nero (Buffalo, NY) and Joe Kaminski (Camillus, NY) along with sophomore's Andy Piniarski (West Seneca, NY) and Kevin Voelker (Tonawanda, NY) will be the keys to that groups defensive success. Voelker led the team in batting average in 2006 as he hit (.343). Switch hitting newcomer Bryan White (Cheektowaga, NY) will also contribute a strong bat to this sure handed group.

Junior left handed pitcher, Kyle Golombek (Buffalo, NY), will bring his dependable dominance to the staff along with junior college transfer, Ryan Amos (Cheektowaga, NY).

Head coach Ron Nero returns for his fourth season as the teams leader. His knowledge and leadership earned him AMCC Coach of the Year honors in 2006.
