2005-2006 Summary
2005-2006 Outlook
The Mavericks enter the 2005-06 campaign with optimism. Season ending injuries and a very young squad made for a very trying year last season. The optimism stems from the fact that both of the injured student-athletes are returning as well as many of the freshmen that gained valuable experience.
“I could not fault the effort or the team play last season. The attitude was very positive. We were very inexperienced and lacked depth, which became very apparent in the rigorous Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference," said Coach Dick Hack, entering his second season as the Mavericks head coach. “I do believe we addressed a lot of our needs in recruiting. We will add several transfer players from other 4 year institutions. Those players are expected to bring additional leadership as well as experience on the collegiate level. We have added height, quickness and depth. This recruiting class will provide much stronger competition in practice. All players will be competing for starting positions and other roles on the team. Success this coming season will be predicated on this competition daily in practice.”
The Mavericks will be adding a junior varsity program to provide additional playing opportunities to prepare the players for the challenges that the schedule will provide. The Mavericks open up the season with perennial NCAA-bound Hamilton College in the Hamilton Tip-Off Classic. Other non-conference foes are NCAA Division I Robert Morris University and the Buffalo State College Holiday Classic.
