2007 Outlook

The Medaille College men's lacrosse team will look to build upon last years (2-7) record as they bring back most of their top players and have bolstered their coaching staff. The Mavs return four of their top six scorers from 2006 with sophomore, David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), headlining that group, in 2006 he scored (13) goals to go along with (7) assists. The Mavs also return their starting goalkeeper, Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), who was great in his first season finishing with (110) saves and a (52.9%) save percentage. Also, returning on the defense are Casey McPartland (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), who led the team with (58) ground balls and Steve Lachut (Amherst, NY/Amherst) who brings strength and experience to the defense corps. Other returners that will play an important role for Medaille are Jon Zak (Elma, NY/Iroquois), who notched (6) goals and (2) assists in 2006, Joel Berger (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois), who came up with (9) goals last season, and Kevin Pollinger (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) (5) goals, (2) assists. The defense will get contributions from Paul Thompson (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's), Alex Nicosia (Depew, NY/St. Mary's) and Jim Coleman (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East). Some newcomers who should play a significant role are Matt Walker (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who is a sharpshooting midfielder, Brad Gurbacki (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili), a heady attackman, Tony Lepkowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), an athletic midfielder who can play both ends of the field, and Joe Dishaw (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) who is a big, athetic defenseman . The Mavericks have nine new faces on their roster from last season and with the addition of two new assistant coaches, Chaz Bulera (offensive coordinator) and Butch Chadwick (defensive coordinator) the future looks bright. The Mavs will open up the 2007 season on Monday, March 12, 2007 against Fontbonne University with a 1:00pm faceoff on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
