Mike Carbery enters his ninth season as head coach of the Medaille men’s lacrosse team and he is the lone coach in the teams history
Carbery joined Medaille College in 1999 when he became the assistant athletic director and head coach of the brand new men’s lacrosse team. In his first two seasons at the helm, his inexperienced Maverick teams finished winless at 0-17. The 2002 season, however, would see the program take a giant step forward as the team compiled a 5-4 record and established a foundation for the future. The Mavs have continued to progress and the 2008 season looks to be their best yet.
Included in his duties as assistant athletic director, Carbery handles sports information, NCAA compliance, and the athletic department web page at the College.
Carbery began his coaching career by starting the varsity lacrosse program at Canisius High School in Buffalo. In his fifth and final season at Canisius High, he led the Crusaders to a 14-3 record and the Western New York Private School Championship. That year (1999), Carbery was named the Section VI ( Western New York) High School Lacrosse Coach of the Year.
A 1996 graduate of Canisius College, Carbery was a four-year starting goaltender at the NCAA Division I program. He was the team MVP in 1992 and won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1994. He was ranked in the top ten nationally in save percentage in 1991, 1992, and 1994.
Mike and his wife, Michelle, reside in Amherst with their daughter, Hannah and their son, Aidan.
