2008 Season Review
In what would be the final year for head coach, Michael Carbery, the Mavs had a very memorable season. The season started out with the Mavs heading to the Rocky Mountains to take part in the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs, CO. The faced off against Colorado College, Kean University, and the University of Scranton before heading back to Buffalo. The Mavs would finish the season at (5-8). The five wins ties a school record for victories in a season. They also tallied (123) goals as a team, also a record. There were individual achievements that were reached as well. Junior, midfielder, David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) would set the single season scoring mark as he tallied (28 goals - 25 assists) for (53) points. Bennett also set the career assists mark with (55) and is closing in on the all time scoring crown. He currently has (113) points with (121) being the record. In goal junior, Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) became the all time saves leader at Medaille as he now has (467) stops. It was a season that saw contributions from both veterans and rookies. Junior, attacker, Jeff Zacharias (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) had a career year as he netted (24) goals while freshmen, Joe Glieco (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (22 goals - 5 assists) and Brett Bridges (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) (21 goals - 11 assists), were pivotal to the Mavs success. The defensive unit for Medaille was solid all year as well. They were anchored by Dlugosh in net but received stellar play from junior, Joe Dishaw (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) and senior, Casey McPartland (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker). McPartland scooped up a team high (80) ground balls, finishing his career in 2nd place in that category with (277). The Mavs will lose four seniors this year and look to solid recruiting and a strong core of returning players to boost them to even bigger things in 2009.
