Women's Lacrosse

The Medaille College women’s lacrosse team has reason to be very optimistic about the upcoming 2007 season.  The 2007 season is highlighted by an opening season spring-break trip to Roanoke, VA to play NCAA Division III opponents Hollins College and Ferrum University.  Upon returning home the team will face traditional foes Wells College, Keuka College, and Cazenovia College each home and away, in addition to games against RIT and Morrisville State College.

In 2006 the Lady Mavs struggled through a disappointing (2-7) season, in large part due to inexperience at several crucial positions.  The 2007 team gained a great deal of experience from the 2006 campaign and only graduated two seniors from that team.  Several juniors are expected to step up and fill vital roles with the team during the 2007 season.  Captain Kim Coleman (Syracuse NY/ Corcoran) leads that group of juniors along with Jenna O’Malley (Hoosick Falls NY/ Hoosick Falls), Amina Diallo (Buffalo NY/ Grover Cleveland), and Tiffany Azzurito (West Moreland, NY / Westmoreland)

The 2007 Medaille College women’s lacrosse roster has many new faces to go along with three players who are entering their last season with the team.  Graduating after this season will be seniors Mary Hontz (Angola, NY/ Mount Mercy), Jill Carlson (Buffalo, NY/ Mount Mercy), and team captain Tera Tinti (Auburn, NY/ Auburn).  Of the many new faces on the team, none may make a greater impact than freshman goalkeeper Betty Lupu (Amherst, NY/ Amherst). Other important new players include freshmen Kelly Meyer (Lancaster, NY/ Lancaster), Danielle Radlich (Clarence, NY/ Clarence), Melissa Schwab (West Seneca, NY/ West Seneca East), and Lauren Droege (Syracuse, NY)

The 2007 season is an important year for the Medaille College women’s lacrosse team.  A strong group of upperclassmen will lead the team after learning the ropes their first few seasons.  According to Coach Wagner, “I expect this team to be very competitive in all of our matches this season.  We’ve increased our roster size and experience level among the players.  This is also, by far, the most talented group of lacrosse players that we’ve had at Medaille in the four seasons I’ve been affiliated with the program and I expect that it will translate into a terrific season both on and off the field.”
