2005-2006 Outlook

Head Coach: Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz

The Medaille Mavericks Women’s Soccer Program enters their second season under head coach Daniel J. Krzyzanowicz with hopes of building on their 2004 season, which saw them make the AMCC playoffs. Coach K. will return 10 starters and 14 varsity letter winners from the 2004 squad. Although they have so many letter winners, the Mavericks only have three returning seniors. Those seniors expected to lead a very young squad are Lindsey Kennedy, Maggie Wilcox, and Jamie Land. “This team is going to be young, with many of its starters being freshman and sophomores, but I still expect to compete within the conference for post-season play,” said Coach K. Here is a look at the returning Soccer Mavericks:

Goalkeepers

The mavericks will return last year’s starter, senior co-captain Lindsey Kennedy. Lindsey is already the school’s record holder in single season shutouts and looks to build on career shutouts. She was three times the AMCC goalkeeper of the week in 2004 and is one of the strongest keepers in the conference. Although she is the only returning keeper, she will compete with some incoming freshman for the starting job.

Defense

The defense is the strength of the young Mavericks’ team, lead by sophomore co-captain Tiffany Azzarito. Tiffany was the only freshman defender chosen to the AMCC all-conference team last season. “Tiffany is a fantastic one v. one defender and is a great leader for our squad.” Other returning defenders include Jennifer Florczyk and Leah Mazzullo, who both started last season as freshman. Tiffany, Leah, and Jenny are the backbone of our defense and of our team. “They had great rookie campaigns and I hope will lead us to becoming one of the toughest teams to score against in the conference” said Coach K. Seniors Maggie Wilcox and Jamie Land may also she time in defense, as will sophomore Amina Diallo.

Midfield

The midfield will return some very strong sophomores in Jenna O’Malley and Koryn Walker. “Jenna was solid all season long, works hard and is ready for another good campaign. Koryn had an exceptional run towards the end of the season, as is our team’s most versatile player. Koryn can play anywhere on the field and will be called on to do so this season. She has the ability to defend 1 v.1 and also to finish when given opportunities.” On the wings for Medaille will be senior Maggie Wilcox, junior Mary Hontz, Sophomore Taranne Kolger, as well as Land and Diallo at times.

Forward

The top scoring threats returning to the Mavericks lineup are sophomore Tricia Knight and junior Kerri Clarkson. These two will be counted on to do a bulk of our scoring this season. “Last season these two were just getting used to working together, now all of that is gone and they can both go out and play together.” Other returners competing for playing time up top will be sophomore Ashley Bleich, and junior Susan LiYong.

Schedule

The Mavericks will play by far their most difficult schedule ever, starting right with their AMCC conference opponents. “The AMCC is one of the strongest women’s soccer conferences in the country, and I consider every game within the conference to be a battle.” Outside of conference play, Medaille will co-host their first-ever home tournament facing off with Daemen College, Mount Saint Mary College, and New Jersey City University. The team will also play two NAIA teams: Daemen College and Myers University. Rounding out the schedule with be local rival D’Youville College, Wells College, and Keuka College.
