Coach Wilson

Lonni WilsonThe Lady Mavs will be under new leadership in 2007 as Lonni Wilson takes the helm. Lonni Wilson has been coaching volleyball for over a decade.Wilson spent the 2005-2006 season as an assistant coach with Medaille. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Division II University of West Georgia from 2003-2004. There, his training efforts helped take a program that finished 2-34 the previous year to a 21-15 record and a fourth place finish in the conference. Before arriving at West Georgia, Wilson was a volunteer coach/administrative assistant for The Ohio State University. In his two seasons there, OSU finished 13th and 12th in the nation in Division I, respectively. OSU also had the Big Ten Player of the Year both of those seasons and the NCAA National Freshman of the Year in 2001. Wilson spent time in the NAIA serving as an assistant coach for his alma mater, Point Loma Nazarene University, from 1995-1996.

In addition to collegiate coaching experience, Wilson has extensive coaching experience at the juniors level. In 2000, he helped lead Delta Valley 18 Blue to a National Championship Gold Medal Finish in 18-Open at the Junior Olympics in Louisville, KY. That team saw 9 of its 10 athletes go on to compete at Division I. Three of those later became NCAA Division I National Champions (two with Stanford and one with USC). That same year, Wilson led the South Bay Boys 16-1 team to a 12th place finish in 16-Open at the Junior Olympics in Phoenix, AZ. Wilson followed up those seasons by helping lead the Vision Volleyball Club 17-1 team to a 5th place finish in 17-Open at the Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Most recently, Wilson has coached juniors for the Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club out of Buffalo, NY. His 2005-2006 13-1 squad won the WEVA region championship and qualified to attend the Junior Olympic Championships. His 2006-2007 15-1 squad finished their season 58-14, won the WEVA region, and in July, finished 26th at the Junior Olympic Championships in Minneapolis, MN.

He currently is a professor of sport law and sport marketing at Medaille College, and lives in North Buffalo with his wife Melodia, his 2-year-old son, Wil, and his 1 year-old daughter, McKinley.
