All readings occur on the 4th floor of the Main Building, at 7:00 pm.  With the exception of the first reading (Bella Poynton), all readings occur on Thursday evenings.  Readings are free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

2015-16 Reading Series Schedule

Fall:

Tuesday, September 15

BELLA POYNTON A playwright and theater artist from Buffalo, NY, Poynton holds a BFA from Boston University and an MFA from The Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop.  Her plays have been developed at the Great Plains Theater Conference, The Barrow Group, The Science Fiction Theater Company, OtherWorld Theatre, and Road Less Traveled Productions. Her play Speed of Light, which was a Semi-Finalist at the O’Neill Theater Conference and received Honorable Mention on the2015 Kilroys List, is being produced by Road Less Traveled Productions from September 11- October 4, 2015.  Bella’s play Medusa Undone won the 8th Annual New Works Festival at Panndora Productions, and will be developed by the Antaeus Company in Los Angeles in 2016. Other recent honors include finalist status for both the 2015 Woodward/Newton Drama Award, and the 40th Annual Samuel French OOB Festival.

JACK WANG is the co-creator of two children’s board book series, Cozy Classics and Star Wars Epic Yarns. Illustrations from Cozy Classics were selected for the 2013 Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition. This year, he and his twin brother Holman also created a Google Doodle in honor of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birthday. His literary fiction has appeared in numerous journals and was shortlisted for the 2014 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. He teaches in the Department of Writing at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

AMANDA JACOBS A composer/playwright with training as a classical pianist, Amanda Jacobs is most recognized for her award-winning work on “Jane Austen’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, A Musical”, which swept the New York Musical Theater Awards in 2011, and included the coveted "Stage Entertainment Award", and "Most Promising Musical" award.  It received its world premiere in the 2014-15 season at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and will be included in the upcoming 2016 Season of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.  In January 2015, Jacobs was invited to the Johnny Mercer Writers' Colony at Goodspeed Musicals for her new musical “Learning How to Drown: An Irish Musical”.  Her current project “The Up Side of Down” with Y York was featured in the 2015 Hormel Festival of New Plays and Musicals in Phoenix in March.  See more of Jacobs' work

TED PELTON is the author of over 40 published stories and four books, including a novel, Malcolm & Jack, and two novellas, Bhang and Bartleby, the Sportscaster.  His most recent work is a collection of tales about a woodchuck. He has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant in Fiction, among other awards, and is the Founder of Starcherone Books, an independent literary publishing house.  Chair of the English department at Tennessee Tech University, he lives in central Tennessee with his wife Susan and daughters Sophie and Grace.

CHRISTOPHER DEWEESE is the author of The Father of the Arrow is the Thought (Octopus Books, 2015) and The Black Forest (Octopus Books, 2012). His poems have appeared in publications including Boston Review, Crazyhorse, Fence, Granta, and Tin House. He is currently Assistant Professor of Poetry at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
