Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced the September schedule for his Erie County edition of the Congress on Your Corner program, which provides local residents with access to the Congressman’s office through satellite office hours at locations in the district.
Over 600 Congress on Your Corner events have been held over the last five years and another 135 outreach events are scheduled for 2011.
This fall, members of Congressman Higgins’ staff plan to visit locations across Erie County to provide specialized assistance with various federal agencies. In addition, staff will be available at local colleges throughout Erie County to provide students with an opportunity to meet with Congressman Higgins staff regarding federal issues such as Direct Student Loans, health insurance coverage, and passports/visas.
“The ‘Back to School’ season can be hectic for everyone, especially for students who may be dealing with a demanding class schedule, planning for study abroad opportunities and trying to fit in internships in preparation for graduation,” said Congressman Higgins.
Wednesday, September 28
12-2 p.m. – Medaille College, 18 Agassiz Cir., Buffalo
Members of Congressman Higgins staff will be available to answer questions regarding Federal Direct Student loans, visas and passports, internship opportunities in Congressman Higgins Washington, DC, Buffalo and Jamestown Offices, as well as information on how to stay on your parent’s health insurance after graduation.
“Our office is always here to help and listen and help but since traveling to our office in Buffalo can be difficult for some, we come to neighborhoods across Erie County to make direct access easy and convenient for residents,” said Congressman Higgins.
Congress on Your Corner provides constituents the opportunity to talk directly with someone from Congressman Higgins’ office about issues related to Social Security, the Veteran’s Administration, passports, or other federal matters. Residents are encouraged to visit a satellite site to share their concerns, questions, and ides with a representative from Congressman Higgins’ office.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
