CBS National News Correspondent Byron Pitts appeared at Medaille on October 3 to speak to students, faculty, staff and community guests on themes that he explored in his inspirational book, Step Out on Nothing. His book was required reading for the class of 2015 over the summer.
The 60 Minutes correspondent shared details of his struggles growing up with a debilitating stutter and overcoming a label of "functionally illiterate" from his teachers as a child.
Pitts continued his time in Buffalo with a visit to Riverside High School the following morning, where he spoke to students and signed copies of his book. Medaille has had a presence at Riverside for the past year.
A video of the event will be available on the College's YouTube channel. His appearance was generously suppored by a grant from The John R. Oishei Foundation.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
