Medaille College has announced a trio of innovative initiatives that will immediately impact its Buffalo Campus undergraduate students. This includes a new “Graduation Guarantee” for all first-time, full-time freshmen, which defines how students can graduate within four years. Medaille is the first private college in the region to offer this promise to its undergraduate students.
“We have always been a learner-centered college and our evolving programs, new facilities and grant-making successes are reinforcing that historical commitment,” said Medaille College President Richard T. Jurasek, Ph.D. “We are becoming a respected innovator and are increasingly recognized and trusted by outsiders who believe us when we say that Medaille cares about its students’ success above all things.”
Medaille is the first local or regional college to introduce the concept of a Graduation Guarantee to its students. The Graduation Guarantee will save a student thousands of dollars in tuition and student loans associated with a fifth year of college. An additional year of college means interest continues to accrue on Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, at a rate of 6.8 percent in 2011-12, Alternative/Private Educational Loans, and PLUS Loans for Parents, at 7.9 percent in 2011-12.
Student Success Center
This newly-built facility has integrated five student and academic service offices within one structure, opening up new ways for faculty and staff to collaborate on undergraduate students’ persistence to graduation and academic success.
Student Success Team
The Student Success Team offers first-time freshmen a dedicated support system from the day they apply until the day they graduate. Advisors and counselors from various departments have specific responsibilities with each student to guide them through individualized programs.
“No other local or regional college has implemented such a comprehensive set of programs that focus on student success,” said Gregory Florczak, vice president for enrollment management. “As we continue conversations with students and parents about the challenges of completing a college degree, Medaille now has three powerful programs that demonstrate who we are and what we do for our students.”
The college began a comprehensive branding effort in 2009 that reinforced key messages for its prospective students, alumni and community audiences. Along with the creative work and imagery that have marked this campaign, the college has developed and refined these differentiating promises that reinforce the mission of the college.
The Student Success Center, the Student Success Team and the Graduation Guarantee have grown from a multi-year effort undertaken by staff in the admissions, academics, student affairs and college relations offices, and are based on internal research of student needs, insights from nationwide academic trends and strategic planning themes.
An earlier version of this news item indicated that Medaille was the only college in WNY with this type of guarantee. It has been amended 10/18/2011 to reflect that it is the only private college in WNY with a four-year graduation guarantee.
The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
