In December 2011, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released its Cities Readiness Initiative list, ranking cities from 72 metropolitan areas by their readiness to a biological terror threat. Buffalo was ranked second on the list, scoring 98 on a 100-point scale.

According to Steve MacMartin, director of Medaille's homeland security degree program, "The Buffalo/Niagara Falls region is one of the largest commercial crossing points on either land border. As such, the area should clearly be considered a possible target for terrorism, and a terrorist attack, epidemic or other disaster in the region would have drastic repercussions."

He continued, "Emergency and disaster preparedness should be of paramount importance for government and civil officials in the area.  [Buffalo's ranking] is testimony to the job being done by those officials."

I'm grateful for the education I've received.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
