Buffalo's first ever Startup Weekend, a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs, was held at Medaille's campus this weekend. The 54-hour event attracted 140 local entrepreneurs, designers, and developers who formed teams to create startups and compete for cash prizes. An expert panel of local CEO's, startup veterans and mentors provided feedback and served as judges in the competition. In the end, it was Do Something, a company that developed an app for playing charades, that beat out the other 16 teams for the title of champion.
Startup Weekend, powered by the Kauffman Foundation, is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
