Matthew Bowker, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies, was the 2014 recipient of the Medaille College Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scholarship Award in recognition of his research contributions to the fields of political theory, psychoanalysis, and literary criticism.

In recent years, Dr. Bowker has published numerous articles and four scholarly books applying interdisciplinary methods from diverse academic areas, including Rethinking the Politics of Absurdity: Albert Camus, Postmodernity, and the Survival of Innocence (Routledge, 2013), which applies psychoanalytic methods to the literature, philosophy, and politics of the mid- to late twentieth century, and Escargotesque, or, What is Experience? (Punctum Books, 2014), a cross-genre text combining social theory, memoir, poetry, and cultural criticism.

The Medaille College Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scholarship Award is given annually by committee to a Medaille faculty member whose published scholarship exemplifies the ideals of interdisciplinarity and substantially advances the fields in which he or she works.

I'm grateful for the education I've received.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
