Hello, my name is John Fronckowiak. I'm the director of online learning at Medaille College. I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce you Medaille's online learning environment. Medaille College utilizes the latest online learning management software from Blackboard - the industry leader in online learning environments.
To access your online class you visit the course website, and login using the username and password supplied to you by Medaille when you enroll. The advantage of online learning at Medaille is that you can access, and work on your course, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.there are no set meeting times - you work when it's convenient for you.
The list of courses you have taken appears on the right. Just click the course name and you're in! Considerable time is spent designing our online courses. We build in a high degree of quality and consistency in our online courses. For example, you will always find the same course materials i the same place in every course. The major due dates for each course are the same from week to week - which provides a dependable consistency to your personal schedule.
You are enrolled in one course at a time. Each class lasts seven weeks. Each class is broken down into seven weekly modules. Under the start here link on the left you will find these modules. For each module we provide a roadmap. Just like a map helps you get to your destination - each the weekly roadmap guides you through everything that you need to do each week. There are no surprises - all expectations are clearly laid out here.
The work for each week includes discussion board postings - where you get to interact with your instructor and fellow classmates. Individual assignments - which can include papers, problems, short questions and answers, or a variety of other things. Some courses may include tests that you take online as well. You have access to all the seven modules from the start of the course - so there are no surprises from week-to-week. Also as I mentioned major dues dates for assignments and discussion board postings are the same every week.
Another component of online learning at Medaille includes team work. Why teamwork? Our experience and research shows that teamwork promotes deep bonds and relationships between you and your fellow classmates-that typically last beyond the classroom. Team work is considered a best practice in online learning. It also provides you with a peer support system that considerably enhances your learning experience.
In each online class at Medaille you are part of a team of fellow students. Each week includes a team assignment. A separate discussion board area is provided to interact with your team. You will also work on a team project - each weekly assignment typically moves your team further along to the goal of completing the team assignment.
There are also a variety of other tools that you can uses to interact with your fellow students. From instant messaging, email, to our general coffee talk discussion boards.
I would also like to briefly mention our faculty. Our faculty are practitioners within the fields they are teaching. They spend their days actually doing what they are teaching you. They bring real, practical experiences to your online learning experience.
I encourage you to visit the online learning section of the Medaille website to explore a demo course on your own!
We believe we have created a superior online learning experience for all learners! I look forward to having you as part of the Medaille Online Learning experience!
The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
