Medaille's Reading Center offers tutoring to students in grades Pre K-6. Literacy Specialists provide individualized instruction to children for two hours per week during the school year.
Tutors complete a full battery of informal assessment in the areas of reading, writing and word study before beginning instruction. Students receive individualized instruction designed to meet their distinct needs at the Medaille Reading Center.
Whether participants need intensive instruction or a semester of support learning better strategies, our method of utilizing assessment-driven instruction meets the developmental needs of the children in our center in a unique and effective way. We focus on word recognition and decoding skills, comprehension and fluency strategy instruction, vocabulary development, word study and an emphasis on teaching writing skills and strategies.
Children respond well to the individualized instruction and attention they receive in the center. Possibly one of the most important areas of improvement we see is in their confidence and motivation! Medaille's Reading Center runs for 12 week sessions during the fall and spring semesters and for 7 weeks during the summer. Days and times for each session are listed below.
Schedule We offer three sessions throughout the year; fall, spring and summer. The fall session runs from mid September through the first week of December. Spring sessions run from mid February through the first week of May and the summer session runs from the first week of July though mid August.

Two Medaille graduates, Kristy Giardina and Katie Pomeranski, participated in our reading program. See their thoughts on the education program at Medaille in videos posted to Youtube.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
