What are my responsibilities as an associate teacher?
You are a mentor to the student teacher assigned to you. If possible, meet or speak with your assigned student teacher prior to the beginning of the placement. Your responsibilities include observing the student teacher daily, reviewing the student teacher’s lesson plan(s), providing regular feedback and completing the necessary evaluation/assessment forms.
What is the length of student teaching?
The student teacher will be with you for approximately 7 weeks.
What do I do with the completed evaluation/assessment forms?
Completed assessment forms should be given to the student teacher. It is their responsibility to turn in all the original documentation to the College at the scheduled Student Teaching Exit Meeting.
Who do I contact if there are questions or issues with the student teacher, the process or the evaluation forms?
All questions or issues surrounding the student teacher placement should be directed to the student’s college supervisor. The name and phone number of the supervisor will be on the confirmation letter. Do I get paid for hosting a student teacher?
Associate teachers receive a stipend payment for hosting a student teacher. Payments to associate teachers are processed several times a semester. Associate teachers are required to complete the Associate Teacher Stipend Form and return it to the Office of Student Teaching/Certification before the stipend check can be processed.
When can I expect my payment?
Checks are issued through the semester. Checks mailed to our Canadian associate teachers can take up to 2-4 weeks depending on the postal service. We strongly suggest that associate teachers include their home mailing address in case checks arrive after the school has closed for annual holidays.
Who do I contact if I have a question about my check?
Checks can take 2-4 weeks to arrive after the stipend request has been processed. If after this time you have not received your check, or if there is a problem with your check, contact Deborah Allen in the Office of Student Teaching/Certification at email@example.com.
The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
