Flu Update: November 4, 2009
Within the past week we have seen an increase in influenza like illness, just as we have seen in the community and the country. Most doctors are not testing for the illness, but rather diagnosing by symptoms only. Since there are similar illnesses, it is impossible to tell for sure if it is definitely “swine flu”.ossible to tell for sure if it is definitely “swine flu”.
We are encouraging those with influenza symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, achiness, fatigue) to stay at home in an effort to decrease the spread of the illness. You are not to return until you have been free of fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen. Please contact Health Services by phone or email to report your illness.
If you have a medical condition or develop severe symptoms, it is urgent that you contact your physician as soon as possible because you may need antiviral medication.
We have increased our disinfection efforts on campus and need your help to stop the spread of disease. Please stay home if ill, seek medical attention if necessary, and as always, wash your hands, thoroughly and frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and cough into your sleeve. Watch your Medaille email for information regarding upcoming H1N1 vaccine clinics. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
