Frequently Asked Questions for College Supervisors
Q. What does the College need in order for me to be a college supervisor?
A. Medaille College is required to have a revised curriculum vitae (CV) every year. A reminder will be emailed from the Office of Student Teaching/Certification. We are also required to have an official transcript showing your degree. Canadian college supervisors are also required to submit a copy of their Certificate of Qualification from OCT. If you have questions about any of the required documents, contact Maria Weimer, Coordinator, Office of Student Teaching/Certification at maria.weimer@medaille.edu.
Q. What are my responsibilities as a college supervisor?
A. You are a mentor to the student teacher(s) assigned to you. If possible, meet or speak with your assigned student teacher(s) prior to the beginning of the placement. Your responsibilities include orienting the associate teacher, observing and evaluating the student teacher’s lessons and completing the necessary evaluation/assessment forms. For more information and a copy of the forms, see the Student Teaching Handbook or visit the College Supervisor section of our website at www.medaille.edu/studentteaching/.
Q. What is the length of student teaching?
A. The student teacher will be with you for approximately 14 weeks unless one of their placements is outside your area.
Q. What do I do with the completed evaluation/assessment forms?
A. All original copies of completed assessment forms should be given to the student teacher. It is their responsibility to turn in all the original documentation to the College at the scheduled Exit Meeting.
Q. Who do I contact if there are questions or issues with the student teacher, the process or the evaluation forms?
A. Contact Maria Weimer, Coordinator, Office of Student Teaching/Certification, at maria.weimer@medaille.edu.
Q. Do I get paid for supervising a student teacher?
A. College supervisors who are not full-time faculty at Medaille College, receive a stipend payment for each placement at which they supervisor a student teacher. If the student teacher is supervised for two placements, the supervisor will receive two stipends. Payments to supervisors are processed twice a semester, once for each placement period. Full-time faculty do not receive a stipend.
Q. When can I expect my payment?
A. Checks are issued at the end of the student teaching experience in October, December, March, and May.
Q. Who do I contact if I have a question about my check?
A. Checks can take 2-4 weeks to arrive after the placement has been completed. If after this time you have not received your check, or if there is a problem with your check, contact the Office of Student Teaching/Certification.

Mileage forms should be submitted within 2 weeks of the end of each placement. However, college supervisors may elect to submit one combined form for mileage for both placement periods. The form but must be submitted within 2 weeks of the end of the placement. The Mileage Reimbursement Request form can be found at http://www.medaille.edu/college/hr/mrr.pdf.
