TRiO Alumni Mentor Program Mentor Application

Medaille College’s TRiO Student Support Services Program and the Alumni Association are excited to invite you to participate in our Alumni Mentor Program (AMP). The aim is to foster an exchange of career-related ideas, expertise, and friendship by pairing alumni with current TRiO undergraduate students in order to help them make the most of their college experience, navigate their career decisions, and make professional connections in their field of interest. Mentors and mentees will be matched on a range of criteria, including shared academic interests and experiences, career fields, and similar activities or groups.

Benefits for the Mentor

  • Support the professional development of future leaders
  • Develop a reputation for grooming new talent
  • Enhance coaching and leadership skills
  • Become a part of an expanded professional network
  • Support Medaille College by increasing the likelihood that students will graduate

Mentors are expected to give a firm commitment to AMP for a full academic year, but for many, the relationships continue beyond that. Mentors should plan to meet in person with a minimum of one mentee at least once a semester, for at least an hour. The mentors and their mentees will also communicate by phone or email on their own times. TRiO will plan special mentoring receptions to offer networking opportunities. Sometimes, mentors choose to host mentees for a job-shadowing day, so that the student has a chance to gain insight on a particular career.

So, ask yourself:

  • Are you interested in helping shape the future of students following in your footsteps?
  • Are you willing to listen, ask questions, and give constructive feedback?
  • Are you willing to share what you’ve learned from your failures and your successes?
  • Are you willing to keep the conversations with your mentee confidential?
  • Are you available to commit to the program by attending an event on campus and communicating regularly with your mentee?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, we need you!
