As part of your grade in Introduction to Laboratory Animal Science,
you are required to care for the animals in the Vivarium.
Although some view this as cheap labor, our hopes are that you are
actually learning not only proper care and humane treatment of the
animals, but also the importance of the strict husbandry procedures
needed to maintain a proper facility.
In your first class, you were introduced to the Vivarium
protocols through lecture and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
handout that outlines the care of the animals and the
facility. To ensure that you fully understand the importance
of proper compliance to the SOP, we ask that you test your
understanding via the SOP Mastery Test. This test contains 25
questions in regards to the procedures of proper management of the
Vivarium. Reading the SOP and participation in the care of the
Vivarium will ensure a satisfactory grade. You may take the
test as many times as you would like until you feel satisfied with
your grade.
The test will be administered in the Academic Skills Center
(M-321) located on the third floor of the main building. When
you feel that you understand the material, go to the Academic Skills
Center, introduce yourself as a VET 120 student, and explain that
you are there to take the test. They will supply you with a
quiet area to take the test. No books or notes are
allowed. When you are finished, turn the test into the
attendant and you will receive your grade in a few days, checking
with Katie (D-211) for the results. If you are not satisfied
with your results, you may retake the test when you are
ready.
The test will be available until _____________, 2003.
