F. Housekeeping Procedures

  1. Vivarium is to be swept and mopped with disinfectant solution every morning. Use one squirt per 2 gallons of hot water. Rinse the mop after use and wring it out.

  2. Counters are to be cleaned daily with disinfectant spray and must be kept clean of clutter.

  3. Sinks, soap dispensers, mop buckets, trash cans and other support equipment must be kept in a sanitary condition and should be cleaned as needed.

  4. Waste (bedding, etc.): Double bag large garbage can. Remove all wastes from the animal room and put in the inner plastic bag. Close and knot the inner bag and throw it in the dumpster outside the first floor Downey Science Bulding.

  5. Food and bedding containers should be cleaned as needed.

  6. The air conditioner filter and exhaust vents must be maintained free of dust and hair. Remove the air conditioner filter and rinse on Saturday and as needed.

  7. The Vivarium should be checked daily for evidence of insects and rodents (on the loose). Any vermin should be reported.

  8. Fill humidifier reservoirs and adjust as needed. Humidity should be maintained at approximately 50% (if ambient humidity is high, room humidity will also be high and cannot be adjusted).

  9. Report excessively high (above 68°) or low (below 64°) temperatures. Do not adjust the air conditioner or heater.
