About Cheryl Burke
I have recently returned to the US after working for 16 years creating and working in the Student Affairs division at a university in Lahore, Pakistan. Prior to that, I lived and worked in the Atlanta, Georgia area as an Elementary School and Special Education teacher.
I value integrity, compassion, pursuit of excellence, and justice among other things. These have informed my choice of career as well as how I interact with others in my job. I believe that advising is an opportunity to help students become their best selves and achieve their goals. It is our job to find situations that are road blocks for that and to work with students to overcome those blocks. This includes working to change unfair systems or practices that create those blocks for students and communities.
I'm actually an introvert. I really like people. So, while I enjoy interacting with them, I need my space to recover from all the energy required to do that.
Travel and hearing the stories of people's lives.
There are lots of things that I don't know.
Spend as much time as you can with people who are not just like you. Travel. It will change your life.
