Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

    1. Describe how your career goals align with the focus of Medaille’s Clinical Mental Health Program. 
    2. Discuss the ways in which you have prepared for study at the masters level and how you believe you will successful in this program.
    3. Explain how you envision yourself being successful in forming effective counseling relationships and use your writing to inform the reader how you actively demonstrate respect for cultural differences.

  4. Interview with the Faculty Admissions Committee: Prospective students who pass the initial admissions screening will be invited to participate in an interview with members of the Faculty Admissions Committee.     Submit a well-crafted statement describing your reasons for pursuing a teaching career, skills you’ve developed in related professional and/or volunteer experiences that are transferable to teaching, and how Medaille College’s graduate program will prepare you to meet your educational and career objectives.

    Include all professional and volunteer experiences. 
  6. Graduate Testing Requirements – Mail
    Applicants are required to take an entrance exam. Several exams are acceptable; talk to your Admissions Counselor for details. Score reports should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office.
  7. Additional Requirements
    • Interview with faculty on campus.
    • All non-US/Canadian transcripts should be accompanied by certified translations. Certified translations can be attained through www.wes.org (World Education Services).
    • Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate the ability to read, write and understand English by taking a language proficiency exam.  Score reports should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office.  More information about the TOEFL.

    Write a clear, professional statement of intent addressing both of the following points:
    • Discuss your reasons for seeking certification as a special education teacher. Include examples of what you hope to learn in this program (SWD).
    • Discuss your reasons for seeking certification as a literacy specialist.  Include examples of what you hope to learn in this program (LIT).  
    • Explain challenges you have encountered during your field experiences or classroom experiences and how you hope to address them during your graduate work (SWD & LIT).

Rolling Admission

Medaille College has rolling admissions where acceptances are offered on an ongoing basis until classes are filled. You will be notified of a decision within two weeks of completing the application. To maximize your eligibility for financial aid it is in your best interest to apply early in your application process.

You may be an online learner but we want to get to know you as an individual, and the best way to do this is for us to sit down and have a conversation. We encourage you to schedule a time to meet with us. Appointments can be arranged Monday through Thursday from 8am to 7pm, Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 12noon.
