Medaille Summer Theater Camp Online

Medaille Summer Theater Camp Online

9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 13-31, 2020

Final show premieres online at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 31

Now in its eighth year of supporting the creativity of middle and high school students, Medaille Summer Theater (MST) will transition to an ONLINE PROGRAM in July 2020.

This annual three-week online summer theater camp program empowers young actors and writers (ages 12 to 17) to create and produce their own original, world-premiere comedies, dramas, and musicals... but this summer, they can have fun and collaborate with other young artists online, from the comfort and safety of their own homes. New and veteran students will devise, write, and develop live performances, produce videos (in the style of Tik Tok, Quibi, and recent episodes of "Saturday Night Live"), and even create scripted audio dramas and podcasts. Students receive fun & inspirational prompts from world-class theatre educators Jon Elston and Bella Poynton, who then support development and production of an evening of entirely original student work. This year, the traditional Medaille Summer Theater final show will be streamed live and available for download at the end of July.

Respect for bright and courageous students is central to the MST mission. Medaille Online Summer Theater Camp faculty provide a positive, informative, lively, and fun environment in which students learn and grow, as artists and people. Ambitious projects born in Medalle Summer Theater Camp have won awards for their young authors and become impressive centerpieces of college applications! As students develop their creative work, they also forge lasting friendships with their peers. 2019 Medaille Summer Theater students Georgia Bontempo, Daltin Mathias Danser, Noah I. Kotzin and Jo Yanko, along with MST faculty Bella Poynton and Jon Elston, also made an appearance on Think Twice Radio last year. The students got to perform some of their original work on the podcast titled The Play's The Thing, hosted by Matt Boyle. Watch part 1 and part 2 of the live recording of that appearance on Facebook.

Ten veteran students — some of whom have participated in MST for seven years — are expected to return to MST20, including the children of several Medaille faculty and staff members. New friends are always welcome… whether you are in or outside of Western New York, or anywhere in North America!
