Posted by Medaille University Office of CommunicationsOn October 21, the Medaille University community gathered together for the 2022 Honors Convocation, to honor the academic achievements of Medaille students. This annual event also celebrates scholarship donors and their respective recipients, and it includes the formal presentation of the Dr. Brian Shero Teaching Excellence & Campus Leadership Award to an esteemed faculty member.
After the processional performed by Sir Edward Elgar and an invocation by United Methodist Community Church Jehovah Jireh Pastor César Galarza, Medaille University Interim President Lori V. Quigley, Ph.D., welcomed attendees. Dr Quigley then presented the Dr. Brian Shero Teaching Excellence & Campus Leadership Award to Department of Interdisciplinary Studies Chair and Assistant Professor of Philosophy Nicole, M. Jowsey, Ph.D.
Dr. Jowsey, who has been with Medaille since 2015, serves in various faculty leadership roles on campus including Faculty Council and the President’s Cabinet. She received her Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University at Buffalo in 2011. Her current research interests include the intersections of philosophy and popular culture, applied ethics, critical race theory, and the intersectionality of social justice and philosophy.
After an address from Dr. Jowsey, Vice President for Academic Affairs Vochita Mihai, Ph.D., led the presentation of the Dean’s List and Medaille Medal recipients. The medals are awarded to undergraduate students who hold Dean’s List status for four semesters or more. Dr. Mihai also led the recognition of students who were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma and Sigma Beta Delta honor societies.
Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology and Faculty Council Chair Tanisha Joshi, Ph.D., led the recognition of scholarship recipients and the donors who are responsible for making students’ academic dreams a reality.
A livestream from this year’s Honors Convocation is available to watch online for those who missed the ceremony, and photos can be viewed and downloaded from the media album.
The Medaille community congratulates this year’s honorees on their hard work and dedication, and thanks Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Michelle Bogdan for serving as the event coordinator.
