Dr. Vochita Mihai Accepted Into National StatPREP Program, Oversees Medaille’s New Applied Mathematics ProgramPosted by Medaille College Office of Communications
Professor of Mathematics and Chair of Medaille College's Department of Science, Mathematics & Technology Dr. Vochita Mihai has been accepted into the 2019-20 StatPREP program. StatPREP is an initiative of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), in conjunction with the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) and the American Statistical Association (ASA). The program aims to foster the widespread use of data-centered methods and pedagogies in college courses. By working directly with college-level instructors to develop the understanding and skills needed to work with and teach modern data, the goal of the StatPREP program is to enhance the preparation of students to meet the demands of a data-driven workplace and their ability to use newly available resources.
Dr. Mihai oversees Medaille’s new bachelor’s degree program in applied mathematics, which was launched in fall 2018 and offers concentrations in data science and actuary. Applied mathematics, data science and actuary are the fastest developing fields, not only in U.S., but also worldwide, and both of the concentrations within the College’s applied mathematics program deal with data.
